3 is the only correct answer.

Super Mario World is a broken game with the cape feather that panders to the casual audience.

It was meant to be an introduction to new gamers. That's probably the reason they took "Super Mario Bros. 4" out of the title. They wanted to emphases that this was a new game for a new console and make it inviting to players who were picking up a controller for the first time. That's not pandering. That's marketing.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is great, but Super Mario World is just grander. Plus, as fun as the power-ups in SMB 3 were, they pale in comparison to Yoshi.

SMB3

I love that each world has its own theme that its levels followed (Desert, Water, Giant, Sky, Ice, Pipe, Dark). By comparison, the level types in SMW were scattered and reused pretty much all across the map.

I also liked SMB3's powerup variety, its inventory system, its cryptic secrets, its music, and its graphics. I can't play the All-Stars/GBA version anymore because it just looks ugly compared to the 8 bit.

I agree. I played them pretty close together and I enjoyed 3 a lot more. The level variety is so good.
