Like something you've had nightmares about over the years?

I used to have nightmares about Freddy Krueger a lot, and even the Demons from Demoni, but I watched those a few times as a kid lulz. Actually just had one about the Demons last night first time in awhile.

Nowadays when I have a nightmare it's usually about burns/scrapes or cuts/holes on my body and people with fucked up faces. It's either one of those things or all of them together.

I haven't really had any in many years, but I used to have them all the time. There were two kinds. First and most common was me being in some kind of maze/dungeon, with a killer chasing after me. Eventually, I'd end up caught in some trap as the killer stabs me to death, only for the perspective to switch over to a different version of me watching the first die, then that one gets dropped into the dungeon and it repeats until I wake up, usually 2-3 deaths each time.

The other kind is seeing my mom get killed in some horrible fashion. In some she shoves me out of the way and is tackled off a cliff by an attacker. Or she is gut shot and I'm trying to save her as the guy has me at gunpoint ordering me to stop. Or she's hurt in a car wreck and I have to watch as she bleeds out. Once she was eaten by a shark out of a mud puddle. >_>
That sort of thing.

I haven't had an actual nightmare for a long time. Lots of strange dreams but not many nightmares. When I was little I used to have a bunch of nightmares similar to Night of the Living Dummy from Goosebumps

My nightmares tend to consist of a few overarching themes:
-Being late
-Being lost (which ties into being late)
-Being unready or failing at something

Which, broadly speaking, makes for somewhat boring nightmares. However, after being a fan of horror ever since I was a child, I kinda ran through the cool stuff and have desensitized myself to most of it.

The last proper nightmare I had -- sometime in the past year, but not recently -- involved exploring some kind of a store and finding a facility underneath where I encountered a weird-looking humanoid creature which kept growing and chased after me for some bizarre reason. Then I somehow got a rocket pack with limited liftoff and a cooldown between uses which made the whole chase sequence more interesting. I can't remember if I was still on the run or had successfully escaped when I woke up.

I had a couple creepy ones when I was playing tons of Doom 3, but other than that I almost never have them.

in Doom 3, there are a few events where you simultaneously become paralyzed and hallucinate. twice I had a dream where I think I noticed that I was paralyzed while sleeping and this triggered a similar "you're paralyzed, the walls are bleeding, the moon is turning red, there's a monster in front of you sucking the life out of you" moment.

a very common dream (not really a nightmare) for me is having to fight someone only to be frustrated as heck by being paralyzed and feeling like I'm stuck in quicksand while fighting.

other than that I think I once dreamed the city was bombed, and there's occasionally one where I've done something really stupid like robbed a bank which is very relieving to wake up from.

Indeed.

Yeah, that's kinda common, the quicksand part, not the paralyzed part, I was actually trying to punch so hard one time while dreaming I woke up and punched a hole in my wall. I was like "Oh shit!" started to laugh a little then went back to bed.

Being killed in hilarious ways. One time I was with a former girlfriend in the woods and she was running ahead and I said "Don't leave me I'll be mauled by wolves!" And then I was immediately mauled by wolves.

In another I was skydiving with a snowboard with the intention of riding down a mountain but was impaled by the mountain spire at the top.

I feel like it's generally what you're really afraid of. Or some kind of abstract representation of it. I always have bad dreams of people I love dieing or my gf breaking up with/cheating on me

Very strong winds mostly. I saw too many tornado simulations and videos when I was a kid. Also, I'm incredibly light at only 90 lbs, so if a windstorm was to pick someone up, it would probably be me.

Also spiders and sometimes drowning.

I very rarely have nightmares

Last one I can remember had these jumping spider things the size of cats that were hiding all over the place, but I had that dream like a decade ago

I don't think so all the time, I think it sometimes depends on what you see a lot, kinda like how you may dream about something you see during the day or on tv. See I usually have a scrape or cut on my body from like exercising, working or drinking and for someone reason I dream about having my whole arm or leg all scraped/cut up.

You guys bringing up spiders reminds me of one I forgot about. It wasn't recurring like the others though. I was at a picnic or something, some kind of gathering when 2 kids went missing. I spotted them beneath a house and crawled in after them. Then I realized the place was completely infested with spiders and I was crawling through a mass of webs. I was going to go back out and call for help but then I saw the kids were covered in spiders and crying. I couldn't leave them like that, so I pushed through towards them. I woke up when spiders were getting in my clothes.

I couldn't sleep again that night. Every little itch, or tickle made me think there were spiders lol

Not always the exact same nightmare but normally they involve death. Either of myself or others that are close to me. I always seem to wake up when it's about my own death though. Probably because I've never experienced it so can't really process how it would actually feel. It's not a coincidence that one of my biggest fears is the death of my loved ones and indeed my own. Although I know it's inevitable.

maybe the most pressing thing on your subconscious is physical injury, so you get a booboo and you dream about being maimed because your life isn't that bad?

but if your life isn't that bad, then why are you here?

All my dreams are great.

Sometimes I get caught in a loop of waking up though. You wake up, and then you realize you're still asleep, then you wake up again, and again, and over and over again.

Sometimes I manage to peel my real eyes open and look around the room but I still can't move.

i've had that last part before. scared the shit out of me, I started trying to move so hard, that when I did regain the ability to move I threw myself completely out of the bed.

i've read it has something to do with you have woke up, and can see, but your brain has yet to regain full function when it comes to sending the signals to your body so you can move it on your own.

Monster-wise: Nemesis, and he's always after me, even with a group of people.

Strange-wise: My teeth falling out and feeling every bit of it.

Most of the Time: Nightmares that are a nightmare to me, not because of what it's about but for the fact I wake up to reality afterwards.

I don't remember most of them however.

the only one I remember (though I know i've had multiple), is me meeting the most beautiful girl, ending up dating her, then marrying her, sex, dates and all those things. the dream just seemed to last forever which made it harder to face the fact it was just a dream when I woke up. and it came at a time in my life I was deeply depressed.
