Just saw that DB FighterZ is releasing the same day as Monster Hunter. And all these publishers always bringing up DLC for the game before it's even out, sometimes on disc, and asking for money before you even know what you're buying...

Just, why? Thinking about it from a business perspective that doesn't sound like it makes any damn sense at all. If I were to do it...

1. Obviously move the release date. You want as little competition as possible, and to release as soon as possible, but not at the expense of the game because that will destroy customer loyalty when it comes to future projects. Probably shouldn't announce the game more than 6-8 months off either.

2. Don't announce any DLC. Just keep hyping your game. Don't lie about features, but make it sound like the coolest shit ever.

3. As soon as the game launches, have a podcast, interview, tweet, SOMETHING where a dev can confirm they're not done, and are immediately going to go hard at work on DLC.

4. About a month or two after the game launches, drop the first DLC with a season pass, and in the passes description tell everyone up front exactly what they're buying. Could even drop the pass a week or two after launch, so long as it still lists exactly what will be in it.

5. Customer loyalty increases and the next project does better for it.

REPEAT.
