Will it make the rice salty?

If yes, we won't need soy sauce! Win win. See, this is why investing money in science is a good idea. Too bad we've stopped doing that.

I wonder how much of a difference in sodium this rice would have compared to others. Would most Asian people even like it, or would it sit in warehouses, like American rice does in Japan?

EDIT: NVM, apparently it's in high demand precisely because of its flavor and texture.

It will come down in time, and even if it ended up at higher price, this is amazing discovery.

Yeah. This will essentially enable folks to irrigate directly from the ocean and save the freshwater for the humans.

Well, literally salting the earth might still be a bad idea. Who knows what sort of long term effects that could have, or if the salt deposits would seep from the rice fields to other parts and do damage. There will have to be a lot of precaution taken.

obviously any land you designate to grow this rice will only ever be able to grow this rice, or farm saltwater fish / flora like edible seaweed. Long term it's possible that these areas could also be converted into algae farms for biofuel.

I mean, if I could make a light source that was nothing but salt water and rice and required no other energy, that would also be really fucking useful.

Nope. Solving world hunger is a logistics issue, not supply.
