Not to be confused with action-adventure, adventure games are about half the AA formula, but often much more intricate in terms of decision making, puzzle solving and/or dialog.

One nice thing about the 2600 was the abundance of them. Anyone remember Adventure or Swordquest? Of course, in those days it was hard to play games because they were counter-intuitive. As a result, I never finished Swordquest, even with the comic, and even with a freaking walkthrough. :P But I loved Adventure. That was a great game.

Seems like the genre became pretty niche on consoles when the Legend of Zelda came out, but the PC platform for some reason entered a golden age for the genre in the 90's, resulting in some of the best games of the genre. The Journeyman Project is still one of my favorite games ever thanks to being so heavily decision-based. Currently playing through The Longest Journey, and I gotta say Roper Klacks was one of the best villains ever, lol.

When I first played Trace Memory, I thought the adventure revolution was here and it was happening on the DS. The DS did have a better showing for the genre than most systems of the time, but sadly it never became the big trend it should have been. The system just lends itself so well to it. I loved that the puzzles were creative but sime as soon as you got the idea for how to solve it (that reflection puzzle took forever to figure out, but I felt like such a BAMF once I did, lol).

I loved The Journeyman Project, especially how 3 came full circle. Are there any good PC adventure games these days? Similar to the old Sierra/Lucas Arts games?

I dunno man. I agree with you on 3 though. It was a nice change of pace to do the dialog thing, and bonus points for having cutscenes and a story. 2, I loved because of excellent worldbuilding. 1 is still my favorite but all three were solid games.
