you don't roll for literally every action. and you don't have to roll to decide what your doing. like on Big Bang Theory, Sheldon role played sex with Amy and he had to roll to see where he kisses her (on the nose) in a real game, you would just say "I kiss amy" or "I kiss amy on the lips". sometimes you might roll to decide something but not in a situation like that. you can just choose to kiss someone where you want.

I don't know why show writers always get video games and role playing wrong all the time. hasn't it been long enough now that some or most even of the tv writers should be of an age where they grew up with games? or hell just fucking do some research before you write all willy nilly with no regard for facts. in no other medium are people allowed to get away with this crap. when people write novels they do research to make sure facts are right.

What if the other person is likely to try to avoid a kiss? Don't you need to roll to see if they evaded successfully?

There is no "would of", "should of" or "could of".
There is "would've", "should've" and "could've".

well yes. but in this case that wasn't happening. Amy wants to be kissed. it's a huge running joke on the show since her boyfriend is asexual

sorry I don't think I have seen that one. I only saw like the first 2 seasons or something and then I didn't have tv for years.

It's been a long time since I've seen it and I'm only familiar with DnD through Critical Role, but I think the issue there is that they didn't roll enough.

Yes. The Key & Peele skit is the most accurate one I've found.

AD&D 2nd edition is where it's at. Third edition made magic users garbage compared to any melee character and 4th was terrible. How's fifth?

Man what? 3rd edition was the start of the linear warrior / quadratic wizard meme. Wizards were more OP in that edition than any other unless you count pathfinder.

But anyway, 5th edition is fantastic.

I mean you can roll to decide what you will do if you want to, I guess. It just isn't a part of the game and is more akin to a personal coin toss.

Yeah, after some quick reading there's some cheese for wizards but you're also assuming the wizard has the correct memorized spells. Also, why isn't your DM making the villain do things to nullify the wizard? The players would try it? Wizards are nice for killing trash encounters it seems.

BBT has a scientist that makes sure the stuff the characters say make sense but can't get video games and dungeons and dragons right.

I always wondered why they didn't just actually put a muted game on. So the person would actually be controlling something and it would look realistic for the viewers.

Scripted shows literally have characters say "_____ and I" when it should be "_____ and me" when the person speaking is the object in the sentence as opposed to the subject. This happens all the time. Getting video game and dnd stuff wrong is the least of their problems.

I've been playing 5e for almost a year now, and as said, it's fun if you find the right group. I play at a comic store sometimes, and my enjoyment totally hinges on who else plays that night. Some people play well together, others will completely fuck things up or bog the game down. I'm in a book campaign now and I've played with this group through another book and we have tons of fun. Doing a homebrew as well and, honestly, that seems to be where the fun is at.

You can always try out something on roll20.net or look up Adventurer's League around where you live. And if you wanna play D&D, I recommend 5e, since it's streamlined and very easy to play & understand, while giving enough wiggle room to roleplay how you please.

Copyright issues.

But if it is muted what issue would there be? It is not like they actually show what game they are playing. Plus there are some shows that have used actual game sounds. I remember an episode of Roseanne with them talking about playing Super Mario World and using the actual sounds from the game.

I don't know if those are accurate or not, but they're fun episodes nonetheless.
