I play at a comic store sometimes, and my enjoyment totally hinges on who else plays that night. Some people play well together, others will completely fuck things up or bog the game down. I'm in a book campaign now and I've played with this group through another book and we have tons of fun. Doing a homebrew as well and, honestly, that seems to be where the fun is at. You can always try out something on roll20.net or look up Adventurer's League around where you live.
