Wasn't really following the game much so lot of it was a surprise to me. But check this out.

1. You can pair up units with each other just like a regular FE game
2. Command units from the tactical map
3. Take control of playable units anywhere on the map
4. Weapon Triangle mechanics apply

If you add all the Shadow Dragon + other characters together, you still end up with less characters than Fates.

IDK but probably not. There are no child characters except Lucina

Good question. Game is dramatically dry on casters so IDK why they didn't bother to include one of the most popular tome users.

Better than Hyrule Warriors? I've been seeing very middling reviews so I'm wary.

Much better.

Bad reviews seems like people mostly assblasted at the roster and can't get over it.

It's actually the best musou game I've ever played so far although DW9 looks even better but it's not out yet.

Define plenty of games? Because most musou games I've played just pop up a message "Blah blah is under attack!" and then you have to physically run all the way there to manually sort it out or they die.

IIRC Most of those are a thing you can do in DW7 and DW8 (I forget if it's in the base versions or in their upgraded rereleases), Warriors All-Stars, Hyrule Warriors, Warriors Orochi, One Piece Pirate Warriors 3, Samurai Warriors 4, and Samura Warriors 4-II. Potentially more, but that's all I know of.

Pairing up characters is a staple in most Warriors games nowadays (either that, or the ability to switch weapons on the fly allowing you to use a secondary moveset). The ability to control where other units can move is fairly common as well. Weapon Triangle is as old as the PS2 Warriors games. Your third point is the only thing that's not all that common, but it is in other Warriors games as well. Hell, Hyrule Warriors on 3DS has all of those things and it's an OG 3DS game.

You definitely can't do that stuff in Hyrule Warriors, but I'm not sure about DW7/8.

The way pairing up works in most warriors games is you have a pair and you swap between the two on the fly (or the different weapons as you mentioned). In FE Warriors, you walk next to a character and push a button to pair up with that character. You can then break the pair and pair up with another character dynamically, all within the battle. Fate/Extella's pair mechanic for example locks you into a pair with a specific character and that's it. This one lets you pair any two units near each other dynamically and dissolve those pairs on the fly as though it were a regular Fire Emblem game.

You can also command the units themselves from the tactical map as though it were a fire emblem game.

And I've never played a musou game where I could hit a map, point to a character, and say "take control of that character" and mop up whatever was nearby.

They also added the classic fire-emblem mode where your characters are permadead.

I mean, that sounds like such a minuscule difference. Actually sounds pretty bad in comparison to being able to switch between all of them, or a group of three to five on the fly at any time as with other Warriors games. Sounds like you're hyping up marginally different changes, or things I've pointed out as not even being new to the genre.

Aside from, if I recall, Lyn and Celica, all of the characters are from Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates.

Original:
Rowan
Lianna

Shadow Dragon:
Marth
Caeda
Tiki

Awakening:
Chrom
Lucina
Lissa
Male Robin
Female Robin
Frederick
Cordelia

Fates:
Female Corrin
Male Corrin
Ryoma
Takumi
Hinoka
Sakura
Xander
Leo
Camilla
Elise

Other:
Lyn
Celica
Anna

Future DLC:
Navarre
Linde
Minerva

Tharja
Owain
Olivia

Azura
Oboro
Niles

So, yeah, the roster is extremely lopsided in favor of Awakening and, especially, Fates. A lot of notable absences.

The game has gotten a lot of flak for the roster and because, apparently, a lot of the character play very similarly.

You don't seem to understand. You can switch between all of your characters, you can also pair them up with other characters. You can control your entire convoy and can still pair up units dynamically mid battle.

So again, a VERY minuscule difference that barely changes anything at all. Also again, after looking at it again, even that is already in Samurai Warriors, so looks like you still have yet to bring anything new to the table.

I guess you're just ignorant to other games in the genre, but most of this isn't new. Try Samurai Warriors if this really impresses you this much. Has all of these things and even deeper strategic aspects.

Oh, and on the topic on HW Legends, it is different (hence the added subtitle). It has everything you mentioned as well and can played on the original 3DS and came out a while ago.

A lot of people have been having issues with Amazon being shit at shipping copies of this game, apparently. I actually cancelled my order and just got it from Walmart.

As for the game, I think the biggest difference from other Musou games is just how competent your AI allies can be. If you send them to enemies where they have a weapon advantage and set them to help when necessary, provided they aren't overwhelmed by numbers, they can actually win fights.

I haven't played past Samurai Warriors 4, but that one only allowed you to pick two characters at the start of a battle and swap between them. This one takes the Hyrule Warriors Legends system of at four (and I think sometimes more) playable units at once. In addition, you can pair up, similar to how it works in Fates and Awakening, even with AI allies that you didn't select as playable at the start of the battle, though you can't swap to and control those ones. Functionally, it's like using the rescue command on green NPC units in the FE games.

In large enough battles, you can have like four units that have paired up with NPCs, with whatever stat boosts and double-musou attacks that come with it, which can be pretty powerful at the cost of some battlefield presence.

I really dislike how koei warriors games are now days. There's zillion cannon fodder enemies, few tougher cannon fodder enemies and some actual characters who fights back.

There's no feeling of progression because you're already ridiculously op from the start, your combos are just shorter.

I would prefer if they toned the action down a bit and give all chars actual meaningful strenghts and weaknesses. I want to feel like i'm powerful, but not so much that i kill 30 guys per hit.

All koei is doing is going further and further into ridiculous numbers of on screen weaklings. You used to kill hundred, then its 200, next its 500, then 1000+ and now probably 2000+.

All chars are just different skins with different flashy op moves.

I had hopes for fe warriors but what i saw in gameplay demo in youtube, i lost all interest in that game.

On top of making the game mostly Fates and Awakening and insulting all the long time FE fans (most of whom don't even really like Shadow Dragons but would prefer the SNES~GC era FE characters, all of which there are like fucking 20+ badasses with unique style that they could've easily added in here), they also made some characters fucking odd clones of each other.

Why the fuck is Celica a Marth clone?! She uses more magic in her game than swords so wtfff

They would have to create entirely separate DLC beyond what's already been announced for the season pass if they were to add Ike in. Not impossible, but I'm sure they're well aware of fan demand and would have taken it into account when making the game to begin with.

As of this point, no. You'd think they'd do the sensible think and at least let his amiibo unlock him. But that is, apparently, a bridge too far. He might show up as DLC later. Maybe.

What's pretty egregious right now is we have characters who are already in the game, like Owain, as NPCs. But they're being held back until next year to release them as paid DLC.

I will add that, even coinsider Awakening and Fates popularity, I am disappointed in the roster. I feel like they missed a chance to generate some interest in the other Fire Emblem games by including characters like Ike, Roy, Ephraim and Eirika, Sigurd, Seliph, Leif, Micaiah, etc.

At least we got Lyn and Celica, I guess.

I mean, I get the roster complaints, but I also don't want this to turn into Lord Emblem because that's a really uninspired roster. There's no way they'd add side characters like Petrine and the Black Knight without a whole lot of clone movesets, more than there already are.

But yeah, FE9 and 10 are my favourite so I'm kind of disappointed in the lack of Ike too.
