Lots of discussion always about the best, but what was the worst?

I personally didn't like Gen 3. I loved some of the Pokemon they introduced, but I always felt like the leaders, general story, and the world lacked something. Also didn't like the competitive scene then, and that was really the only time I DIDN'T like the competitive scene.

I'd probably say Ruby/Sapphire, Fire Red/Leaf Green, or Diamond/Pearl.

If it wasn't for Emerald, Gen 3 would've been very disappointing.
Fire Red and Leaf Green felt like incomplete games - I absolutely enjoy them, but it feels like those remakes could've been more. Even the opening intro is glitched/incomplete.
Diamond and Pearl have numerous issues, but Platinum fixed them in the end.

I'm not a huge fan of Generation 6 and 7, but those games have something over the outright incomplete feeling of the games I listed.

They were certainly my least favorite. I thought maybe I'm growing out of Pokemon but then I went back and played some of the previous games and still enjoyed the hell out of them.

R/B/Y and it isn't even close.

Virtually no post-game content, glitches out the ass (although some are fun to (ab)use admittedly), terrible AI, a lack of Pokemon (meaning imbalanced enemy teams and loads of duplicate Pokemon, like with Agatha), a lack of moves (meaning shit enemy movesets), various missing features (breeding, hold items, etc.) extremely limited inventory and PC space, terrible balance all-round (case in point: the Psychic type and Special stat), text-based PC boxes, etc.

I loved the games back in the day and have fond memories of that era of Pokemon, but they have come a long way since then.

To be fair to them, they do some things that I wish the recent games would do, like the relatively open-ended nature (with glitches, you can do the first 7 gyms in any order, and can even do it without them to an extent), the rival that actually tries to one-up you at every turn, the enemy organization that isn't totally comical, etc.

Gen 2 improved on a lot of these things, although in hindsight I do have my issues with those games too. The level scaling is awful, Kanto is an afterthought, etc.

I've yet to finish Moon, the beginning is such a freaking drag it's unbelievable. I stopped and thought maybe I'm just growing out of Pokemon (which would be kinda awkward given my username) but I went back and played the other 3ds ones and I had a blast.

So Sun and Moon for me at least. Does the game stop holding your hand at a certain point? I'd like to give it another chance but if it stays like it does in the beginning, I don't think I can take it.

Eh, kinda? It stays insanely easy for most of the game, but the tutorial stuff is mostly over after the first island.

ORAS and Sun/Moon have ruined Pokemon for me. It's kind of hard to find any excitement in the series after those. Then again, it's hard to find any joy in playing Pokemon the normal way in general, so maybe it's just me.

Also, don't know how anyone could say Gen 5 when it has the best games in the series, B2W2.

Tbh. Sun/Moon second half of the game does feel a bit incomplete. Trials are pretty much completely dropped and there's not really much going on the last 2 islands. Hopefully Ultra Sun and Moon improves it much like how Plat improved Diamond and Pearl.

I do still enjoy it (in fact, I beat my Red cart again recently when R/B were released on the VC), but I just enjoy the later games far more and find them far better.

I'm working on a Yellow playthrough at the moment, seeing how far I can take the glitches. The fun glitches are pretty much the main reason for me still playing R/B/Y honestly.

The original Red/Blue/Yellow have aged the worst when we look back on them today, but the insane amount of glitches help it remain fun to play even now.

The original Ruby/Sapphire were the least enjoyable to me at the time, followed by Black/White. But both Emerald and B2/W2 fixed a big chunk of the problems their predecessors had and turned out amazing. I never thought it was fair to lump entire gens together when judging them, since "enhanced" versions (Emerald, Platinum, etc.) and remakes (FR/LG, HG/SS, etc.) are always superior to the first games of each gen. Judging all of 3rd gen based on R/S or all of 4th gen based on D/P doesn't seem fair at all.

I don't think the map was confusing. Unless you're referring to Mt.Coronet(?) that basically split the map in two.

Although Defog did get buffed in Gen 6 becoming a useful way to remove entry hazards. Although most of the best Defog users need to learn it back in gen 4 which means you would need to transfer them.

Definitely Diamond/Pearl. Not even sure why I disliked it so much, but it made me lose interest in Pokemon for a few years.

Ruby/Sapphire was pretty bad too. They removed a bunch of features that were great in G/S/C, like day/night cycles, daily events, and cross-gen trading.

GSC is pretty slow in the beginning and has a poor post-game, but it gets a pass on the latter because it was the first to attempt a post-game(and battling Red was legit cool).

RSE has a ton of water, which is bad, because it's very samey. Not just from a visual standpoint, but from an encounter and trainer standpoint(Tentacools and water types. Forever).

D/P suffered from being quite slow, but I'm biased in its favor because I love Sinnoh. Platinum (mostly) fixed that though.

Oh, and I really didn't like Kalos and found the X/Y post-game really underwhelming, so that gets my vote.
