I've had a 256gb one for just a few months in my phone and it's been fine but now for some reason it's seemingly become read only. I can access what's on it fine but I can't put anything on it, delete anything, and I've formatted it on my computer and it still didn't do anything.

Try running it through CCleaner. It has an option to wipe it several times, like when you take a nasty shit, you gotta wipe several times to get everything. It's like that, try that.
