Parents should give their kids Gameboy Color so they can start Pokemon from the beginning, since it's way harder to work your way backwards

Because batterries are a pain and you only find Gameboys online and in retro stores.

Also you can play every gen of Pokmon(except the original gen 3 games) on 3DS

Yeah but this is 2017, who the hell buys things not online?

But it's not the same, the console is completely different. They have to experience it the way we did

Way more people than you think.

No that's stupid. I like having a backlit screen, sleep mode, rechargeable batteries, transferring to gen7 and wireless trading thank you.

Gameboy was a great little console but why deliberately sacrifice the modern features?

In my case it's cheaper. I just bought my son Pokemon Silver this weekend for $5 on his 3DS. I think we got Yellow for like $10. Meanwhile the three GBA Pokemon games I've bought him over the years, all between $30-40 for the carts.

The only one of those gameboy color can't do is the last.

You can mod a backlight into it, leave it on the charger with the screen covered up for sleep mode, use rechargable AA batteries instead of disposable ones and extract your save file from your cartridge and inject it into a 3DS.

But is wireless trading really all that important? You'll never get to do things like duplicate pokemon, or pull the cable when you're pissed off at your friend in a battle. All staple parts of growing up

The thought if paying $5+ in shipping on litertally every purchase makes me a sad DevsBro.

If you're paying for shipping, you're doing something wrong.

Why do newer gamers have to experience things the way we did in the 90s?

I guess if all you buy is stuff that's in production.

Or if you pay $100/year or whatever it is for shipping, which does save money compared to 1000 $5 shipping payments but costs a lot than stopping at a store on the way home.

You fucking serious? Modding a backlight costs money/effort. Gameboy color doesn't have a rechargeable battery and you still have to take rechargeable battleries out to charge them. and it's hard to do that on the train. That last option is very inconvenient and requires you to have a 3DS in the first fucking place when your whole argument is about having a gameboy instead of 3DS.

TL:DR yeah it can do some of those things but it's super inconvenient, requires extra devices and costs extra money. Still totally better amirite?

Oh yeah and cartridge batteries dying is a thing.
