What difficulty do you generally choose when playing a game for the first time?

I generally choose Normal unless I've played a predecessor game on Hard and enjoyed the challenge.

Normal, unless it's a series I'm quite familiar with, in which case, I may choose hard.

It's supposed to be HitTheGroundWalking.

Normal if it's the classic easy/normal/hard selection

Otherwise 2nd hardest if there are 4 or more

Normal since it seems like that's what they designed around.

Normal. Easy if it's a genre I'm not used to.

Generally normal, but having played Tales of Xillia 1, I started 2 on moderate after realizing the step below that was like stupidly easy.

Thinking about it I'm generally confident enough to choose Hard for modern FPS titles. Normal for everything else.

Normal for a new game, hard if it's a sequel where I've played the previous game(s).

Depends on the game. Normal for games in genres that I'm super familiar with. This goes doubly for games like shooters that are more about muscle memory and reaction time than strategy. I select easy for strategy games most of the time, though, because they are about learning the system and that is difficult to do if you are under too much pressure. There is also the added factor that strategy games are generally meant to be played repeatedly, meaning I will usually inevitably try the game again and have a chance to play the higher difficulty, whereas more straight forward games don't usually hold my interest for a second play through and therefore I generally opt for a more difficult experience the first time around.

Always normal. If I feel inclined to play it a 2nd time, i'll go for a harder difficulty.

Only exception is NHL, which I will pre-set at Superstar because i'm elite at the game.

Hard. Or Harder, if that's an option.

I usually don't play the hardest setting. Like Lunatic in Fire Emblem Awakening or Ultra Nightmare in Doom 2016. The former is tedious and feels a bit unfair, the latter would just piss me off if I made it a good way in just to die.

If it's a new game/franchise I'll default to normal and from there I'll adjust it if needed. Unless it's a franchise I'm already familiar with and know I should do it harder, like when I got The Last of Us I went right to hard because I knew based on TLoU that normal would be a bit too easy and on games like Madden I'll go right to All Madden or at least All Pro at first if it's been a bit since I've played Madden since I usually buy that every 3+ years, not yearly like many people.
