A detailed environment, packed with nostalgia. A story presented as pieces of a puzzle, left for you to put together.

The less you know going in, the better.

I went in blind when it was free on PS4, based on the atmosphere at first I was expecting a horror game, but it's pretty much just you walking around the house and piecing together the story and that's it.

A fucking boring game with an ending that presents itself as a happy ending but is instead one of the stupidest things they could do.

It's alright. I think knowing what it's about ruins the impact of what it's trying to do which ruined it a bit for me.

But I like these games that feel like you're just sorta snooping into someone's life.

The game is pretty good at providing a constant sense of dread and tension if you don't spoil yourself. Which unfortunately is exactly what this topic has done.

How did you know it wasn't right away? Plenty of horror games have their mechanics locked when you start and don't become available until you're actually in a fight or flight situation. Everything about the atmosphere of the game is eerie when you start. I don't see how you could've possibly known it wasn't a horror game right away.

TC don't read-- full spoilers:
The game opens with some disturbing answering machine messages. Later, a bloody tub fake-out. After planting the seeds early on in the dad's writing, the game covers some really dark territory between the walls and in the basement... it seems entirely possible that you're going to discover some really sick shit down there or that you might not be alone in the house. As you approach the final stretch, the story clues point to a 50/50 chance that you're going to find the little sister hanging from the rafters in the attic.
Plenty of tension if you didn't ruin it for yourself.

Not to mention that a lot of indie horror games go for a haunted house simulator thing these days.
