This but let's be honest the actual parties themselves have been absolute shit for decades.

uh no. That's stupid

not at all, sure there is an extremely minor amount of people who's party lines up exactly with their beliefs but the vast majority just ignore, deflect, or downplay the differences of opinion between themselves and their party because of their lack of critical thinking skills and weakminded mentality.

The easiest way to subvert a free society with checks on government power is to turn them against each other.

I expect this thread to be filled with responses from both sides that confirm this by people completely unaware that they're confirming it.

@Anteaterking

I was making fun of your typo.

But for the actual post that is contained in, it seems like you are making the classical argument about "labels". There's always the balance between number of labels and how well it describes people. Isn't it equally idiotic to say "I'm not a Republican because I differ with them in these three minor ways"?

what do you mean by minor, what would you consider a few minor differences?

I didn't have any in mind. It's also very dependent on what issues are important to you. You're measuring (difference on position)*(importance of issue).

My point is that you seem averse to labeling yourself as any political party just because they don't perfectly describe you.

Well for me specifically I don't ever want to commit to a party because they seem to change every few years along with having a few core differences with each side that both sides seems to be dug in on. I don't think with only two parties that they should be able to come close to perfectly describing many people at all yet the vast majority of Americans have dug in their heels anyway as if they HAVE to be part of a group instead of being able to take a look at the candidates and what the party tries stand for every 4 years before making your decision for that period of time. I identified a lot more with the left 10 years ago but they have taken a drastic shift towards identity politics so I felt I had more in common with the right now but unfortunately if I identified as a Republican I would then have to go along with all that religious fueled decision making. I just wish people would be more open-minded and kept their options open, you don't have to be locked into a party if you don't want to be.
