it's space fantasy. it is not in any way scifi. just cause it has spaceships doesn't make it scifi

there is no science in star wars. in scifi the tech makes sense and is explained. the tech in star wars is not explained. it just works, like magic. it's pure fantasy, set in space. there is zero science

also the themes are based on fantasy tropes not scifi. casuals tend to think it's sci fi. and people actually deeply into star wars know it's fantasy. casuals outnumber non casuals so the poll is not surprising

No, you're using a logical fallacy that didn't even end up being true in the first place. if you used themes and tropes you never would have said something as stupid as sci-fi has to explain technology.

If han gives a 20 minute speech on hyperdrives, lasers, shields, and whatever the fuck you want it doesn't magically make star wars sci-fi

It has some very light sci-fi elements but in general it's through and through a fantasy series by genre conventions. Comparisons to Star Trek and a lot of big sci-fi movies of the last 50 years more or less demonstrate the genre rift.

While there's "fantasy" elements to sci-fi itself (hence why the whole thing started as "science fantasy"), Star Wars very closely follows the format of a basic fantasy plot. It's probably the only real example of a modern science fantasy series.

Yes. :3 People just want to idolize certain labels and things they don't think are good enough they want to call it something else entirely.

It's like Protestants who say Catholics aren't Christians.
