Comparisons to Star Trek and a lot of big sci-fi movies of the last 50 years more or less demonstrate the genre rift. While there's "fantasy" elements to sci-fi itself (hence why the whole thing started as "science fantasy"), Star Wars very closely follows the format of a basic fantasy plot.
