Other keyboards I've spillt lot of stuff, water, beer, wine, soda, ramen etc, and they have worked afterwards

But some wine on an expensive mechanical keyboard messes it up, goddammit!!

Maybe if you didn't have 65 half filled glasses around your keyboard you wouldn't have this problem....

Probability says one of them will eventually spill.

Are mechanical keyboards actually better or is this just a hipster thing?

It's like the difference between an $80 pair of boots and a $400 pair of boots

They are really better. It's hard to go back to a normal one after using a mechanical keyboard...

I really am tempted to buy one for work at this stage.

I guess I'll have to try one sometime to feel the difference.

They are genuinely x4 times as good an experience to type on. I have a corsair strafe, cherry xm reds. It's down right pleasant.

Mechanical keyboard isn't like a typewritter knockoff, it's just a different key mechanism from those crappy spongy membrane keyboards.

You're spending this much on peripherals, but not going to the lengths to take care around them?

I wouldn't want to spill anything on a keyboard regardless. It's a good way to get your keys sticky.

I can't fathom actually liking using a mechanical keyboard. The clicky sound is far more annoying and I don't like how raised up the keys are on the ones I tried. I can't comprehend how this is a more comfortable experience.

You can get ones that aren't clicky. Cherry MX Red are linear and have no click.

You know there are key switches that aren't clicky, right?

You can buy quieter switches like MX browns and finding lower profile keyboards are easy, plus if you don't like the keys themselves I can buy a replacement set that's thinner for any keyboard.

I guess I'll do some research. Right now I'm using a bog standard $10 keyboard and I can't really find any reason to actually bother to get a mechanical one. But I'll certainly consider mechanical ones if they have shorter, quieter keys.
