Rick and Mordy is cynical, but still gets lots of moment to moment levity. It wasn't until that one episode ~~Bojack's gay friend that was dying from cancer~~ that all of the previous episodes start to pay off. It was from that point that the show started to get more dark and found its identity. We knew that Bojack is a selfish prick, but it was that episode that made us realize who Bojack really was and it was the first time anyone has ever spread the truth about him. What makes Bojack different from other dark and depressing sitcoms is that it also puts in slapstick and light hearted humor in the mix as well.
