Finally watched it and the new one today. Seems I just barely missed the other topic.

Anyway, so the original was very different than I thought it'd be. I didn't love it but it was a good movie. Left a lot of questions though. I gotta say the sex scene was extremely rapey and left me pretty uncomfortable...

2049 I liked a lot though! I liked how it wasn't as literal dark, like I could actually tell what was going on. Story was good, still left a lot open to theories. I thought Ryan Gosling was really good and Leto was great.

I'll post some more thoughts as they come to me.

There was a topic going on but I think it purged now

I also liked the sequel more than the original, and I had already seen the original years ago and then rewatched it the night before seeing 2049. Better pacing and editing, and I liked K as a protagonist more than Deckard. And of course it's fuckin gorgeous and cinematography porn

I feel the same. And I also liked how it didn't feel too overly cgi heavy. I mean obviously there was cgi, but it didn't immediately take me out of the movie like some do.

Something that I questioned that popped into my head this morning though, how did Love break into the LAPD, not once, but twice with zero resistance? Like what kind of station are they running? Lol

You don't think Wallace has close direct connections with the police, and so a visit from his personal replicant assistant would be something they comply with? I just took it that she came in normally, and says more about the ongoing corruption of the LAPD. But that's just my own theory.

Well that's definitely a possibility, and she did kill the only witness the first time she got it...

What about Deckard's daughter? Did she really have an autoimmune disease or was that just used as a reason to keep her? Also, didn't she recognize her own memory when she saw it in K? And how come K had her memory anyway? Sorry just thinking about all this stuff lol

Regarding the memories, she did recognize it (hence her emotional reaction and her certainty that it was a lifted memory). She uses quite a few of her own memories, often with modifications, as a basis for the memories that she 'sells'. Hence her comment about the artist putting themselves into their work. Also, K is not the only one with one of her memories, as per what the resistance leader said about everyone with one of her memories "hoping that they're the one [who is a child of a replicant]"

Watched it last night and thought the exact same thing. Overall tone and pacing just wasn't what I was expecting at all and that scene... yeah.

i think you're supposed to feel weird about it

i did kind of enjoy how they went in the complete opposite direction with the equivalent character/scene in 2049

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Weird. I didn't get that impression at all.
I thought the resistance leader was just saying that in general, like it was something they had each desired, regardless of specific memories.

let's say I want to see the new bladerunner today as early as I can

my choices are 11:35 in a small theater with a fairly small screen or 2:45 in a giant room with a 3 story tall screen

are the visuals good enough to warrant waiting for the bigger screen

And make sure they crank the volume up so doggone loud that they literally make the roof shake, like at the theater I went to.
