is this actually good? Or is it like DBZ/Fairy Tale/Naruto

How does it set itself apart, like FMAB set itself apart?

I was memed into watching it. it keeps you hooked because every episode ends in a cliff hanger.

powers are stupid and literally can be anything the user can think up. even more stupid is when characters act like they can use "deduction skills" to out wit the opponent, but with the way powers work you really can't and they just pull shit out there ass and act like they knew it was going to happen all along.

at the start of the series. when they were introducing the powers they made it seem like there were different styles and limitations but later on its like they just dropped that idea and every character just has some unique random power they made up.

with the deduction skills. why do animes seem to love that crap. especially when their methods to come up with that conclusion makes no sense and is just an asspull card 99% of the time

but what does it do to set itself apart from the likes of dbz and one piece

the main characters are never the strongest in the series, and can sometimes only beat stronger opponents in very unique ways.

the main character is upbeat like most shounen leads, but he's pretty morally grey.

You should give it a try just because the author from Hunter X Hunter also made Yu Yu Hakusho. After the first five episodes you should have a pretty good idea if you're gonna like it or not.

Many people consider it not only the best arc of the series but one of the best in shonen. Your opinion is quite a minority one.

Unlike generic shounen where MC is the strongest and everyone's waiting around for him to show up and save the day, Gon and Killua are right alongside everyone else struggling to survive opponents that severely outclass them. Also, after the whole YYH ending fiasco, Jump gave Togashi a lot more writing freedom to get him back. As a result each arc is basically an entirely different genre, which keeps things from feeling too repetitive. Of course, this freedom is the source of all the damn hiatuses, but better than rushing out shit every week I guess.

The anime sort of has him grow up in a big way, and it makes sense considering what he has to face, which is things that no child can face and be unscarred.

It is true that the character's can work towards almost any power that they want to, but not in actual combat. The abilities that they have they had to earn through training and ingenuity, and the anime/manga did a great job showing that. How far each power can go is limited by the person's aptitude in that particular area.

what is good about the chimera ant arc

compared to say the Promised Day in FMAB

also is there an overarching plot

like FMAB had Father and the Promised Day

what does HXH have

The overarching plot for Gon trying to meet his dad. For Killua, it's coming to terms with his friendship with Gon and his family drama.

The thing with HxH is that each arc (outside of maybe the initial Hunter Exam, though it still has some cool stuff in it) typically has some key gimmick along with something else that subverts your expectations regarding how it's going to go. And you can think of Nen as a more structured version of JoJo's Stands. It's got more consistent guidelines than Stands, but they allow for a lot of different abilities for its wide cast of characters.

People like the Chimera Arc so much because of how it develops both Gon's innocence as well as the "innocence" of that arc's antagonist (just in the opposite direction). Well, that and the fact that it has some amazing set piece moments as well.

Nen is like, this show's "alchemy".

Or, "Abilities".

This anime grew on me hard, it was hard to wait for the dubs, so I bypassed the dubs when episode 20s were airing, and fully enjoyed everything I viewed up till the last one. The Chimera Arc is not to be fucked with. The first phase of that arc is pretty slow but as it moves, it just gets better, and better. The incredible amount of editing/detail that phase 2 has is just @_@ <3

I hope you have fun with it TC. Nen is pretty interesting, and sometimes you have to just take it for what it shows. And what split-categories Nen will produce as you learn more lol.

Early HxH actually predates Naruto, so if anything Naruto is a poor man's HxH. That's why Naruto starts turning to shit when HxH hits it's hiatus streak, Kishimoto was running out of material to copy lol

So is the manga ongoing?
Should i pick it up after the anime?
Or does Hunter X Hunter diverge from the manga like 2003 FMA and therefore i should pick up the manga sooner?
