They are totally different sports. One can find soccer boring, and find baseball enjoyable. The atmosphere, the pacing, etc. is totally different.

I will gladly watch a baseball everyday because I find it relaxing, enjoyable, and overall, I like the atmosphere. Soccer does not give me the same feeling.

When am I supposed to get excited besides when my team scores?

I tried getting excited whenever they'd get the ball across midfield and near the other team's goal, but then I stopped getting excited when I realized there is a less than 1% chance they'll actually score.

When I watch football, I get excited when my team gets 10 yards...because that gives them a first down and allows the offense to keep marching forward. And when they bust off a big play and get into the red zone? Fuck yeah...very high % chance they will score some points. So exciting. And when the defense is on the field stopping the other team from that happening, it's obviously just as exciting.

So yeah, I just don't see where the excitement in soccer lies except for when a team scores.

If you can get excited about your team gaining 10 yards, why couldn't you get excited about a soccer team having a nice play or nice shot on goal?

Or a nice goalie save or a good defensive play

New Zealand is in the Oceania qualifying zone. They are just about the only national team in the qualifying area that fields a professional team. Look at how Tahiti did here to see what happens when a team from Oceania plays non Oceania teams.

That is why the winner of Oceania does not automatically qualify for the world cup. The wild card is there to ensure the team is decent enough to play well against non Oceania teams.

I guess I just don't like odds. Why should I feel it's a good defensive play if it gets made almost every time? In my experience, goalies block almost every single kick that comes their way. It's also why I don't get excited when my team gets near the goal.

Them why do you get excited when your team is in the redzone. They most likely will always score but you still get excited.

And not every defensive play is a good one, just in football not every defensive stop is a good one, but you do get excited for those that are.

I don't watch much football myself so I don't have some wealth of knowledge about the intricacies of it. I'm just trying to point out some inconsistencies I see in your reasoning.
Like with most sports, the more you know about it, the more interesting it becomes due to knowing what to look for.
