If our decisions are nothing but the results of our brains chemical makeup combined with the influences of our past experiences, that means that if we could hypothetically go back in time to any point where you made a decision, and change absolutely nothing from the past, we could repeat the experiment 1000 times and you would make the same decision every time.

Now heres the situation I want to present to try to debunk this. Youre in line at a fast food restaurant that youve never been to before. You see two items on the menu that are the same price, and both items are equally appealing to you. If those items truly are equally appealing to you, then that means if we performed our time traveling experiment 1000 times, then you would choose one of the menu items roughly 500 times and the other one roughly 500 times as well.

I agree most of our decisions are made due to biases influenced by past experiences and our brains chemical makeup. But in a situation where we are truly unbiased, I dont believe our decisions are predetermined or set in stone before they happen. This may be especially true for people who make decisions more impulsively than others.

So here's the deal.

People don't like the idea that they can be held responsible for stuff, so even if you came up with the best argument in the world you won't convince them.

But also this isn't a very strong argument because there's no given reason you wouldn't choose the same thing every time, just an insistence that you wouldn't.

The reason is youre completely unbiased between the two choices so statistically youre just as likely to pick one thing as the other. This is even more true for people who make decisions impulsively. Their decisions are almost like flipping a coin or rolling dice.

Also since theres a topic about freestyle rapping, heres another example.

Go back in time to the moment before a talented freestyle rapper begins to rap from the top of his head. Is he going to spit the same rap every time you repeat the experiment, or will it be different every time?
