well, the reason Trump is saying that we have the highest taxes is because it supports the rhetoric that we are being taxed to death

if, instead, he said that we had fairly moderate to low taxes compared to other developed countries, this would not support that rhetoric

so I guess it only matters insofar as you think other countries matter but of course we only care about context if it supports the ideas we already hold

our upper class and upper middle class are doing incredibly well and should be subject to tax hikes not tax cuts, because our lower classes are still going bankrupt from a wide variety of costs that we need programs to address.

the reason the 'we are being taxed to death' lie is being spread is the GOP is trying to pass a tax cut for the super-rich by circumventing senate procedures, and this is a marketing mechanism to help force it through by minimizing negative response to the bill until it's been passed and is 'too late'

The U.S. is much lower on that taxes per person chart because 50% of Americans don't pay federal income tax and take more from the government than they receive. I do agree if everyone contributed to society, like they do in most of the countries above the U.S., we'd be better off.
