it's not sudden, and the obsession comes from low status men being terrified of the few partners they manage to get betraying them

though in my case (and possibly pinky's? i think he had better outcomes than i did) it's also because i've been in monogamous relationships in which my partner asked for us to open them up. we did so, and my partner lost her shit over my enjoyment of the relationship following the rules of it, became convinced i'd been cheating on her while we were monogamous as well, went all sorts of nuts, and ultimately a reasonably well-functioning relationship completely imploded in a fairly short period of time.

looking back i believe she asked in bad faith expecting me to find little and her to be free to explore a bit as she had less experience than me. i

open relationships are ok if you start open. starting closed and opening them is a recipe for chaos.

i think a lot of patriarchal institutions basically existed to create a measure of societal balance wherein even below average men have a decent shot at finding a mate (and thereby not take the kinds of risks that endanger the lives of others, such as crime)

in nature you don't see that--you see a very strong skew in male mating behaviors

i think it's one of the many existential screams that are being created by our moving away from those institutions, as we move a little more towards the 'natural' order which has a more skewed distribution of mates

(of course, there's good reason to end those institutions--they aided these men at cost to essentially all women)

But if you date/are with a person for a reasonable length of time I would think that you could feel out if a person is for an open relationship before it gets too serious. Or just straight out ask. imo there is no way to ask that doesnt have the potential for hurt feelings

it wasn't a pleasant conversation but she wasn't pushy or demanding and accepted my answer of 'no'

with the ex i opened things up with, she also asked. at the time i was pretty young and still around lots of other women all the time, so i was enthusiastic about the idea and ignorant of how she'd react to it

I dont get why anyone would care what anyone does in their personal life, so long as they arent hurting anyone or breaking any laws.
