Yes, and you need the items from loot boxes to progress. Its tecnicly pay to advance though and they dont have microtransactions for Pvp which is whats free.

There is no loot boxes/microtranactions for PVP. Yes i mean the campaign, I'd explain more but I'm on my phone and you can already easily find why its awful somewhere else.

The PvP/Battle Royale is free and is available now. The campaign/co-op is supposedly free-to-play sometime next year but you can buy the bundles now which includes some in-game money, items, classes/characters, etc.

As mentioned the campaign/co-op involves loot boxes that contain recipes for better items, gear, ingredients, etc. but like any loot boxes, it's all random. You could either buy loot boxes to speed up how fast you can upgrade your character or play the game a lot and hope you get lucky.

I was interested in getting the game until I read of the micro-transaction. I'm not against micro-transactions but I'd rather wait for the game to go free-to-play instead of buying the bundles now and still having to farm loot boxes.

they developed the mode in far less time it took to make pubg, and it's far more polished than pubg, and it's far more fun than pubg

but since it's "cartoony" no one likes it

the argument that fortnite stole the battle royale idea from pubg is hilarious, too, because pubg is literally just h1z1 king of the kill.

I bought the game a few months ago.. Quit after 3 days.. It feels more like a cell phone game than anything...A bare bones one at that..Pay to win, micro-transaction model.. Wasn't fun at all.

Then don't play Pubg lol. The map in Fortnite is way too small and you run into players far too much for my liking. Its also kinda dumb when most of the map is looted just a few minutes into the game.

but PUBG has vehicles. I don't mind having to travel distances, but having to run is just sooooo boring XD. At least give me an auto run button! But this game is in beta or testing or whatever it's called so there's hope for more features like that.

Also, how do you get to select how your character looks? Is that something you only get to do when buying one of the pack things?
