Like, what makes it interesting? Is it the 30's aesthetic or is the gameplay actually interesting? I feel like I see it everywhere yet don't know why I'm supposed to be paying attention. I don't really watch that much YouTube anymore, but I'll just glance at gaming channels or videos and it's like everyone does a Cuphead video. I enjoy a good, fresh indie title as much as the next person, but it's such a "flavor of the month" club anymore that it's hard to tell what's actually good and what's just people trying to board the hype train.

Yes, the hand drawn animation and jazz ensemble soundtrack is a big deal with this game, as it's something truly unique. And the fact that it's an "Old Nintendo Hard" Contra/Mega Man style game that's both challenging but completely fair is also what makes the game great.

But the development is something that has really impressed people. It was announced back in 2015 or 2014? And I guess they had some issues during the process, and the team had to take out second mortgages on their homes and invest so much of their personal funds into the project. And then there's the fact that we as consumers have been burned frequently before with big promises in trailers and early announcements only to have the finished project be lackluster. But despite all this, the game ended up turning out near perfection. Everything promised was delivered on and it's truly a delight to play.

Aside from the fact that it's a great game, It just feels good to support a developer that has done something right in the industry for a change.

How many 2D shoot-'em-ups have more than 8 way aiming?

Also you can change your shooter and the bullets from each have different properties, like homing bullets or bullets that are lobbed in an arc. You can take two into a battle and switch between them instantly.
