Danny Brown - Monopoly i'd heard the name before but i'd never listened to anything by danny brown. loved this track. this kind of "pissed off" hip hop (for lack of a better term) is among my favorite kinds of hip hop. kind of a weird comparison but it reminded me of vaudeville villain (the song) by viktor vaughn - it was the combination of an awesome, aggressive beat with just straight bars (no choruses or anything). is all of his stuff this good? if so, i should check it out! So I'd say that album, XXX, is the hardest he goes in general on an album/mixtape, but his album from last year, Atrocity Exhibition, is my favorite from him. The amount of work and creativity put into it is stellar.

ben folds five is a band i discovered via board 8 years and years ago. while i've always liked them - i like their songwriting as well as their piano focused sound - i don't remember listening to a song by them that was this good! also don't remember them being this old-school, actually - this sounds like the beatles meets crosby, stills & nash (with some ELO thrown in). but yeah, great song. would probably vote for this (well, probably - it's a really close call with monopoly) if it wasn't for that meddling mycro. --- Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta ...
