http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/us-lost-jobs-last-month-the-first-time-7-years

Every sitting president gets a sneak peek at U.S. job numbers the day before the official report is released. Its just a perk of the job. So when Donald Trump started tweeting yesterday about how impressed he was with the stock market, he seemed to be sending a subtle signal: the job numbers probably werent great.
As it turns out, they were worse than anyone expected. While projections showed the U.S. economy adding about 80,000 jobs in September, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this morning that the economy actually lost 33,000 jobs in September.
Its important to emphasize that these totals were heavily affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which depressed hiring. That said, the new job numbers still fell short of low expectations. Whats more, the combined job totals from July and August were revised down, and that cant be attributed to hurricanes.

This is the first time the U.S. economy has lost jobs since September 2010 seven years ago. It interrupts the longest streak on record of consecutive months in which the economy added jobs.

sounds about right, that's about how long it'd take for policies enacted during the obama administration to take effect

shitposting aside, the reason there were 33,000 lost jobs in September is because of the hurricanes

If you're trying to enter a trade at this point, good luck. Employers want 5+ years of experience and are only paying entry-level pay for those years.

makes sense, you can't expand forever although sometimes it seems that way when you've experienced the worst recession since the great depression

Job growth in September was expected to be lower than usual because of the effects of several devastating hurricanes. Economists did not generally predict an actual decline, but a not-so-stellar report was widely anticipated.

the fact that stocks are barely down today tells me that markets are absurdly overbought and entirely built up on the assumption that a massive tax bill is going to be passed

I started out at $17.50/hr in HVAC while I was (and still am) in school.

Before I got into HVAC I got my CDL at 21yrs old and was hired by the first company I applied to, Schneider. By the time I quit there with less than two years experience I was making $1,000 a week.

There are still jobs out there. People just don't want to do them because our generation has been constantly told our whole lives that you have to go to college and now those job markets are over saturated while "low skill" and trade jobs actually have a hard time finding employees willing to work.

the plan is supposedly reconciliation

its gonna be hard to write a budget with 2.4 trillion in space

much harder still to write one with >3T in space, since there's no fucking way they are going to be able to kill the state tax deduction

Republicans are so lazy, can't even find jobs on their own, always want the president or someone else to hand them free jobs.

If I was a small business owner, I honestly rather hire an immigrant than a republican, at least I'm not getting a lazy bum asking for handouts.

Didn't think they were actually going to try for reconciliation

will red state democratic senators be able to avoid voting for tax cuts? the GOP could craft a more moderate plan that would bring Manchin et al on board imo but still be really good for rich people and really bad for poor people

they dont need manchin if they can use reconciliation

i dont think they will be able to though, and in doing so theyll set a truly dangerous precedent since it'd be a full bypass of senate rules so long as the budget as written 'sets the money aside' for the reconciliation bill.

the second the pendulum swings back to dems theyll be able to just free up whatever amount of budget they want to pass whatever they want

no, but whipping votes becomes much easier when your cushion is larger than 2 votes

any kind of democratic support (from Donnelly or Manchin or Heitkamp) means it would pass

idk if the GOP can or wants to craft a plan those three or four really vulnerable senators could be on board with but it is at least plausible in a way it wasnt with the ACA repeal stuff
