I mean, the main guy was villainous - so I mean in general, not that guy.

Because they're slaves who wanted freedom. Can't have that, I guess. It would upset the balance. They only kill the replicants who escape.

Speaking of this, I can't wait for the new Blade Runner. I was super worried they'd shit all over a classic, but reviews are saying that 2049 is awesome. That's great to hear.

So if harrison fords character was a replicant why was he not killed or in the new movie does this ever get proven true or false?

I thought it was open-ended but it's not like he was rebelling I thought?

Replicants only live for 3 years, so the fact that he's still alive years later implies that he's human after all

Ok ok... turns out the religion of Mercerism wasn't really addressed in the movie and is the core reason why Blade Runners even exist.

In the original Blade Runner, replicants only had a seven year life span (unless that changed in Blade Runner: 2049). The reason the government and Tyrell Corp. gave was that the replicants they sent Deckard after had served in combat and couldn't adapt to life in a supposedly 'civilized' society. To me the story was more like what happened to people who came home after WW2 (or any other war) and had a difficult, if not impossible, time trying to adjust to being disrespected and/or ignored in peacetime. The attitude of 'you did your duty; now get lost' that some people who've never served a day in the military in their lives have toward those who've served and sacrificed for their country.

I always figured that it's because replicants eventually became self aware.

When they realized or assumed that they would die soon then they would stop at nothing to live longer.

Kind of innocent and depressing really.

Just watched Blade Runner Final Cut last night to prepare for the sequel.

Replicants live four years. They are not given emotions, but will eventually develop them on their own. The four year lifespan helps to ensure that they don't get enough emotional development to fear their impending deaths or rebel against their slavery.

The four year lifespan and outlawing of replicants on Earth was put in place specifically because early models did rebel and had to be destroyed. Replicants are only for use in off-world colonies as slave labor, sex slaves, slave soldiers, etc.

Nexus Six models are so advanced that they develop emotions too quickly. Especially with Roy Batty having a mental score of A, he made a perfect leader for the small group of replicants in the movie.

The group of four replicants' entire goal is to get the Tyrell corporation to extend their lifespans beyond the limit of four years. Roy Batty, the oldest of the four, starts the movie at 3 years and 10 months old. Thus he has nothing to lose.

just to make sure J.F. Sebastian was the person who could have prolong the Replicants life right? He was the person who created the replicants for Tyrell corporation.

That's something of a spoiler, which I avoided in my post above.

No. JF Sebastian worked for the company, but didn't have the knowledge Roy needed. He just had personal access to Mr. Tyrell. Tyrell himself was one of the leading scientists and said it was impossible to extend replicant lifespan once the cells have already started to divide. Roy lists several methods and Tyrell shoots them all down as failures that he already tried. Only way to extend their lifespans would be to program them that way before inception. Once created, they will die in four years, period. According to Tyrell anyway. Experimental models can be made with longer lives.

Sebastian states that he's just a modeler or the sorts ?

Like he created their image and body, but not their minds.

Which is strange since he would have recognized Pris from the start.

I know that, but the whole religious aspect of the book isn't in the movie and the topic is about the movie

I just saw Blade Runner 2049 today. I liked it. My wife absolutely hated it. Blade Runner Final Cut is violent, but not gory. 2049 is violent and includes gore. It's also longer and really wasn't her style. I think if you did enjoy Blade Runner, you'll like 2049. It's in the same general style. And the plot? Really well done. I can't even hint without a spoiler.

It's because the Replicants running on emotions is generally a bad thing for Gestalts, and... wait, wrong series.
