Unless you want constant surveillance of innocent civilians, there is no way to stop every single tragedy that happens.

Yes, it shows how much love is in your heart that you want things like this to never happen again. Totally understand that. And yes, many things can be avoided for the next time. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

People want answers for tragedies like this. They want policies put in place to make sure it doesn't happen again, and for some situations this is a realistic outcome (like if a highway collapsed), but for a situation like this, you can't control the illegal underground market for weapons. To suggest otherwise, would sacrifice your freedom of privacy.

There is no answer. It's human nature to make sure things don't happen again, and it doesn't mean you shouldn't look for answers when things like this happen. But...this is one of those things that cannot be solved.

The only way to make sure this doesn't happen again would involve sacrificing your freedom of privacy. We can't do that.

24/7 surveillance on literally everyone everywhere!

Nah, but as mentioned earlier, it just happens. No matter what preventive countermeasures you take, sometimes somewhere these kind of things just happen out of nowhere. Even though it's shitty and terrible for everyone involved, humanity cannot prevent every bad thing from happening, especially if it's a seperate lone-wolf incident.

That onion article was so stupid. It ignores the shootings that have happened in France, Norway, and Germany, along with the fact that you have to control for the massive US population (3rd largest in the world) to compare the rate with other countries.

Those are not caused by citizens of that country though. Guess how all these shooters in the us got these guns? Legally. Yet we keep saying that "bad guys still will get them" line about any legislature for limitations. Sure, they might still get guns. But in much more spaced out increments and potentially more easily tracked.

That is a shifting of the goal posts, and actually several of the people involved in the Charlie Hebdo attack were French citizens, along with most of the 2015 Paris Attack perpetrators being French or Belgian citizens. So it doesn't make sense to just wave the hand and pretend like this was something totally different.

I'm just railing against that pathetically stupid onion article for propagating falsehoods.

There is no realistic way to take guns from Americans that already have them. With the amount that are privately owned at this very moment in the States there will always be an options to get a gun.

There isn't a solution to stop this type of event in the USA.

Except this isn't Europe where firearms are nearly nonexistent. There are 300 million firearms registered in the US alone and no telling how many unregistered ones scattered about the US and Mexico. Getting an illegal firearm would be extremely easy even if you make guns 100% illegal to own. And mass murderers would have an easier time selecting targets now that everywhere is a gun free zone.

That Onion article was originally from a number of years ago.

That being said, are you really going to start crying that they arent being fair to the US because theyre not comparing the US mass shooting issue to actual coordinated terrorist attacks in other countries? Because thats an entirely different issue.

Does the San Bernardino attack count as a mass shooting? You could say that was a coordinated terrorist attack and not a mass shooting. My only point is that the distinction you are making isn't actually made in the US when we look back at our mass shootings.
