I mean, they're a country of 3.5 million with a debt of 73 billion dollars. It's not a tactful statement, but he isn't wrong. Even CNN reported on it:

While everyone was complaining about NFL players taking a knee, didn't our congress just increase military spending by $700 billion?

No. $700 billion is the final number. The increase is like $80 billion.

Again, the man is without tact, but he's actually trying to praise them on their disaster mitigation efforts by pointing out that the number of dead is relatively small given the tragedy. I don't see a problem with the point he's trying to make... he's just serially unable to say it without looking stupid.

"Hey, great job with disaster mitigation. You faced a horrible environmental catastrophe, but your country really pulled through and due to your planning and execution far fewer people died than could have."

Do you see how the above statement is a good thing to say? I swear, it's like you people have such a hard-on for Trump that you intentionally pretend to not get what he's trying to say solely so you can make fun of how he said it.

I've always pointed out that he's an ass. Somewhere that got lost in translation and I've been labeled as some kind of blind supporter by folks here. I think it's probably because I have, on occasion, defended the few things he's said or done that are good things, rather than line up completely behind the "literal hitler" crowd. I just don't see the point in criticizing him when he does something right by twisting reality when there's so many things he's done wrong that there's no need. IMO it makes criticism of him less credible when you know it's going to happen regardless of what he says or does.

Oh well.

As a territory Puerto Rico has had enjoyed it's advantages but ultimately it's been detrimental for them. Congress also made it easy for Wall Street to take advantage of Puerto Rico specifically and it's now lead to a spiral of debt and a crippling of their economy. It's why for years there's been an exodus of Puerto Rican's moving to the U.S. mainland.

It's rather ridiculous that people would rather their taxes go towards the military (or a useless wall) instead of actually improving the lives of their fellow citizens (and themselves, by extension).
