ironic considering the hippie movement. I think that name came from their parents who didn't understand them. modern people don't need to be attacking our parents based on logic from our grandparents

They're the ones who had everything handed to them (relatively speaking) and yet call millennials lazy when we're actually working several times more than they ever had to and we still can only barely afford all the things they take for granted.

I think you are really over estimated how many hippies there were. Hippies were a tiny minority.

Baby boomers are selfish just like millennials are entitled. I challenge anyone today of the millennial generation to say they would have lived their life any differently than a boomer did given the chance. And I challenge any boomer to say they'd never complain if they had to deal with the current situation in their 20s.

It's pretty rich all round.

What would you have done differently though. Asked for higher taxation? Not taken advantage of the housing bubble? What?

Everyone just takes what's good and complains about what's shit since the dawn of time.

They're the generation who spouted "You can grow up and do anything!"

They're the generation currently spouting "You should have picked a practical major!"

They're the generation that scoffs at millennials not buying houses.

Millennials are the first generation to make less than the previous generation. Who employs the millennials?

My personal favourite is the participation trophies thing they always mention. Like fuck me, we didn't ask for those. You gave them to us at an age when we'd barely learned how to pee solo yet.

So you're saying that given an economic situation where you could comfortably work one job without a degree and support a family, you would have done what? Donated more of your salary to charity? Lived off the land? Never bought a house when it was financially viable to do so?

I'm just curious what your response would have been because I strongly doubt you would have thought "fuck me, life is great right now in my middle class life but I have too much, I need to be worse off to make it fairer for the next generation. Also I know nothing about the environment but I'm going to be more conscious of my carbon footprint".

I just think this entire idea is funny, like every boomer was just greedily hoarding money for no particular reason whereas every millenial is a do-nothing entitled snowflake. Do you think everyone from the past voted Republican? Did they all get together and decide to create a housing bubble knowing what would happen?

Really, that does not reflect any kind of reality at all. People live according to their situations, the economic situation that unfolded was due to regular pressures and reactions and not some grand conspiracy by everyone around the age of 50 to fuck over the next generation.

The average person wants to work a good job and get paid well for it. The average person wants to own a house. The average person wants to be able to support a family and put their kids through college. The average person knew nothing about the housing bubble or climate change in the 80s and 90s. You can dismiss these basic human needs as people acting like "hedonistic chuds" but it's a weak argument.

Well if we can't generalize then there's no point in the concept of a generation as none of them ever agreed on anything 100% outside of roughly what years of birth correspond to that generation.

the concept of a generation is simply a bunch of people born around the same time. that's it. you can't generalize them.

The problem with the generalisations is it creates a pattern that goes full circle. Rather than simply talking in terms of the economic/political challenges that X generation faces, it creates a pretty nasty rhetoric where you start dismissing or being dismissed based on what amounts to little more than astrology.

You hear it all the time. "Fucking millenials don't want to work, they're such lazy little bitches", or "boomers are to blame for everything".
