My vote goes towards Shine Sprites. They just get everything right. They look great, the sound they make when they're nearby can be maddening, especially when they're out of reach, the noise it makes when you jump up and send them spinning is orgasmic, and you get a fun little festive tune as Mario poses dramatically and the word "Shine!" flashes across the screen.
