Are you a "traitor" to your country if you refuse to stand for the national anthem?

2 High School Football Players in Texas have been kicked off the team after they PROTESTED their national anthem.

Cedric Ingram-Lewis and his cousin, Larry McCullough used to play for Two Victory and Praise Christian Academy in Crosby and were told to immediately hand in their jerseys after they protested ahead of the game on Friday.

Cedric raised his fist during the anthem while Larry took a knee

Their coach, Ronnie Mitchem, a former marine kicked them off the team and said the protests were OFFENSIVE to veterans.

Cedric said "He told us that disrespect will not be tolerated. He told us to take off our uniform and leave it there"

Ronnie said he had no choice but to kick them off because he warned players ahead of the time not to kneel because it's a direspect to the veterans and America. Although he supports protest, he does not support it during the national anthem and said they could kneel after a touchdown or in the end zone.

He said "I'm a former Marine. That just doesn't fly and they knew that. I don't have any problem with those young men. We've had a good relationship. They chose to do that and they had to pay for the consequences. I fought for their right to protest but i did not fight for their right to disrespect the country i fought for. If you call yourself an American, you will stand up and be proud of our national anthem"

This comes as Trump and the NFL are at odds and called players who took a knee "sons of b******".

A recent poll said that 59% of Whites, 12% of Blacks and 34% of Hispanics disapprove of people taking a knee to the national anthem causing a big divide in demographics on this issue.

Are you a "traitor" to your country if you take a knee to the national anthem? let's see what people think

Man, can't wait for the Supreme Court to step in and knock all this dumb bullshit down.

There's already precedence with the case about not being able to make students stand and recite the pledge

You fought for their right to do so.

Whether you agree or not.

Should they stand? Yeah, they should. Should they be made to stand? Fuck no. Fuck outta here with that shit

It's an extracurricular activity that people get kicked from for more trivial shit than protesting, not a classroom. The coach has discretion in this matter.

If it were me, I would never play on the team again. But football could be a huge part of their school life, so I'd understand if they didn't give it up.

Eh, I wouldn't be surprised if they ruled in favor of the students here, simply because of a matter of free speech

Not surprised they got kicked off the team, given that this happened in Texas. Good for them for standing up for what they believe in, even if they have no power in which to exercise that freedom. Thanks for proving their point though, coach.

I'm a teacher.

When the kids say the pledge in the morning one of them takes a knee.

I personally don't have an issue with it. However, that is only if the student is actually supporting the cause and not just trying to incite his classmates.

Can't we just go back to the good ol days where we just made fun of each other for doing stupid shit, instead of trying to ruin lives by kicking people out of school.

Look, if they wanna express their thoughts about the current state of things by taking a knee, they absolutely should have that right. And to say it's disrespectful is fucking stupid. As long as they're being still and silent, they're being respectful.

But if you wanna make fun of them for doing things differently, you should be able to do that too. Kicking them out though, that's going way too far.

They got kicked out of school?

Looks like this is a private school. The fairest of nexteses.

Even if it was a public school, it's an extra curricular activity.

Regardless, liberals and leftists don't seem to care much when conservatives get fired from their jobs or face consequences for exercising their free speech.

I've been hearing, "Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence!" from leftists and liberals on this board for years. Not sure why they all of a sudden care about free speech.

Pretty pathetic side step. As I said, I've been seeing that phrase on this board for years. Not just a month ago. Not just 6 months ago. For years.

Does taking a knee make you a traitor? No

Does this coach sound like a meat head with ridiculous ideas? Yes

That said it's fair to kick them off especially given a warning ahead of time. When I was in school team unity was number 1, you weren't you, you were a representative of the team and number 2 was coach is always right.

We had a kid suspended for celebrating a touch down because the coach didn't like showboating.

This is a pathetic side step. Associating oneself with the Nazis and kneeling for a worthless garbage song are not the same thing. Making the comparison is so simpleminded that I don't even understand how you aren't too embarrassed to even do so.
