Someone took it out of my bag while I was at the gym last week. I noticed it was missing the following day when I got an email from my bank saying that I've reached my credit limit.

I had about $1700 left on my card when it was lost. The bank told me that it took roughly 7 minutes for someone to reach the limit by making consecutive $100 purchases at the supermarket (presumably gift cards).

They refunded me back the money today, thankfully.

The first thing I'm going to do tomorrow is complain to my gym for not having a locker system for members (and potentially order a refund if there was a breach of contract) and see if they can show me the footage (or at least the cops) of my visit to the gym last week so they can catch the scumbag who took my card.

The rest of my wallet ($20) was left intact, oddly.

The real lesson here is how much of a waste of money the gym is.

Well sounds like you got all the money back. If the police actual care about investigating this stuff, having it happen at a gym that requires memberships and stuff can really limit the potential suspects.

AsucaHayashi posted...
how did they get your pin?

Contactless payment $100 and under don't need pin to authorise here.

stupid not to impose a limit after a specific amount of purchases.

pretty sure i have to reenter my pin either after a specific amount of time or purchases.

also, $100 is way too high... over here the limit is the equivalent to $32~ before it asks for pin.
