This is the best piece of news I've read in a while.

The original max sentence was way to lenient and did little to serve as a deterrent and/or punishment

It still doesn't match what I would decree as a proper punishment for this heinous type of abuse, yet, it's a most welcome step in the right direction towards working to eradicate or at the very least reduce such vile treatment of animals.

Human trash who do the following (from the quoted article, above) vileness to animals deserve to f-----g rot in jail for a hell of a lot longer than the original inadequate max jail time, and arguably longer than the new 5 year maximum. But I'm glad that such woeful sentencing is finally getting the attention and improvement that it sorely needed.

The move comes after a series of cases in which courts said they would have liked to impose tougher sentences if they had the option. These include instances when a man bought a number of puppies just to brutally and systematically beat, choke and stab them to death.

Good. Hope other countries follow suit. In Taiwan, you only get fined for animal abuse. Which is absolute BS.

Fines are suitable for like criminal damage or things like parking offences etc.

They are not bloody fine for abusing an animal.
Physical removal from society, and a complete deprivation of freedom for a significant amount of time (years +) is a far better and befitting penalty for such disgusting acts.

I totally agree with you bro. I remember seeing a news a few years ago about this grad student torturing and killing a bunch of kittens (or maybe it was puppies) and uploading it to social media. He got an equivalent of a USD $5000 fine or something.

Caused an outrage all over the country, but the law didn't change. It's one of the more frustrating things living in Taiwan, you see criminals get super lenient punishments, and feel pissed off.

These things really piss me off as well.

I hate animal cruelty so much. The vile human trash doing these things should (at the very least) be thrown in jail for a very considerable length of time.

Also, a court seizure of their assets and personal wealth, to be allocated to animal charities.

If someone hurt my cats, I would quite literally kill them.

Indeed, this is really really good news. I'm glad the government has acted, and in particular that the much maligned Michael Gove was instrumental in implementing it.
