Siamese Cat that came to us few months ago, and some speed idiot this morning thought it was okay to speed in my neighborhood, and ran him over. I'm greatly upset, I've put with up the Need for Speed idiots in my neighborhood for years but I never thought this would happen, I thought that cat was smarter than that.

Jeez that sucks.

I'm always afraid I'm going to run over a neighborhood cat that likes to lie down under people's cars and run into the driveway when I'm backing in.

I'm guessing starting the car will scare him away but I still find myself having to stop and check sometimes when I start moving and then suddenly go "oh crap where's the cat" out of the blue.

One time he actually ran across the street to go lie down in the driveway when he saw my car coming. That was on a Friday, so my blood was boiling from traffic already. I'm glad Mrs. DevsBro grabbed him before I did. >_>

Blunt trauma, typical of injuries from cars. Somebody moved the cat too off the street too due to how it was placed, I wish I could have gotten up early this morning & none of this would have happened.

I shouldn't give you the time of day with that shitpost response, but since you don't know the whole story. The Cat was too young to be neutered yet, the cat was only a few months old & we had to wait at least till November before we gave him the operation. We have a female cat indoors, and this would have been problematic because she is not fixed & is a indoor cat.

Sorry TC.

Definitely want to suggest keeping any future pets inside, though. That sort of heartbreak is too much to go through often.

I have two other cats, but they been okay for years, my Calico never gets near the road, and it was probably due to her upbringing & experience thankfully (plus she old cat, she doesn't hunt nowadays).

My other cat on the other hand has been doing that for a long while crossing the street, but as much as I want to bring all the cats indoors all year long..well the family won't agree to it, only during really cold days.

I haven't seen that, though twice I have seen someone (seemingly) intentionally run over a turtle trying to get across.

Earlier this year, somebody drove by the Buddhist Temple & intentionally ran over one of the Temple Cats (it was the Mama Cat of a few kittens). One of the Neighbors went after him, and he turned out to be one of those whack ass Wannabe Rappers, I will just say what happens next that the guy was a wuss when he tried to act big toward the neighbor.

I'm not even going to warrant a counter point because you have no clue.

The only one that warrants a error is the people who can't obey the speed laws in a residential area.

:(

it's awful. I'm sorry, TC. A little over a year ago our pup got run over in our drive way by someone who was coming over to visit. I'm really glad I wasn't there. My dad was and he had to deal with her while she was dying. They tried to wrap her up and stem the bleeding and rush her to a emergency vet, but when they got there they said it wouldn't have mattered have fast they got there because she had no chance to survive regardless and all they could do was put her to sleep.

I hate that person who ran her over.

Thug, your point is correct, but you don't have to be a jerk to get your point across. Have some damn empathy.

I don't find his point correct at all, I don't have full control of the situation of what my family does with the cats & I certainly can't control how much people speed in the neighborhood, the only thing I did was file a complaint to the mayor's office to get people actually to obey the speed limit on the main residential road because we had people breaking that law for the past few years now.

This neighborhood has a lot of pets outside, and eventually it will happen to another family.

I hear ya. I know you can't control your family. I would just try to mitigate future pets and not take any more in since you cannot get your family to have them inside. It's not fair to you, your family, or the pet.

Likely when I get my own place (which is soon I think), my future cats are staying indoors. Can't trust people nowadays, I heard of the stories of what people do to cats and other animals on the road even when there is no traffic. I always consider that a first sign that person is probably sociopathic, and with the way they're teaching people these days I'm not surprised anymore.

Sure blame the speeders. Next time blame all the parked cars if your cat sleeps under them. But you even go so low to blame the cat's intelligence. Calling the mayor for this is a waste of their time. But since you don't care about yards you probably don't care about that either.

Stop, and no I was not blaming the cat's intelligence because I thought previously the cat knew better because he reacted a number a times to run the other direction whenever a car passed by (no he was not crossing the street at the time). I had to rely that hopefully he knew better, and since you didn't bother to read my other posts I suggest you stop before you make a fool of yourself.

Why are being such an asshole in this topic?

Because the owner has fault in this as well. If you have a pet, keep it in doors. If you need to bring it outside, have very close supervision or keep it on a leash.

Not hard for people to grasp. Anything else is pure excuses. letting cats outside not only increases the risk for something bad to happen to it(getting hit, getting a disease), but it inconveniences other people who do not want pets in their area.

One of my cats I had over a decade has been a outdoor cat all her life, and she is not ever gotten sick (as long you give your cats the shots it needs). It's a misconception, cats are actually more likely to get sick indoors rather than outdoors depending on the environment.

If it wasn't that, it would've been a dog or a coyote. Outdoor cats don't live very long. I've known a few. You're basically tending to a wild animal before it runs off on its own for a while in an environment you can't control. I'm sorry the driver that killed your cat was negligent, but far more negligent was letting the cat roam and expecting the world to cater to it. Keep your cats indoors unless you can accept that there will be a day they stop coming home.

Doesn't mean it won't or can't happen. Fleas, Ticks, spider bites, etc. Those risks increase when you let a cat go outside unsupervised. I've had indoor pets who have never been to a vet, but doesn't mean I should let them be in their own filth to risk getting them sick.

Plus the risk of other animals killing it(coyote's, foxes, raccoons) or injuring it. Or being hit by a car. I see no benefit to letting a cat go unsupervised outside to other areas.

I don't live out in the country (so no coyotes), and there is no real vicious dogs in the area. Personally I should've reported the negligence in general that had been going on in the neighborhood for years, we have been getting neighbors that just want to rev up their cars, and speed through on the main residential road, unfortunately this road has become very attractive for that.

The neighborhood for the most part is very pet friendly, there is almost always a neighbor with a cat or a dog.

We check the cats periodically to see if they have ever have any parasites, occasionally we find ticks and that is mostly it whenever tick season comes around. We never once had fleas, and spiders has never been a issue (yet). It's due to the environment we live in for the most part that keep a few pests away.
