In FIFA 18 on Switch, you can't play online with friends, and I personally lay the blame at Nintendo's feet. The Switch just doesn't have the online infrastructure in place that should be the bare minimum for any contemporary console, and FIFA 18 exposes that once again.

Nintendo's Switch doesn't have a built-in invite system, nor does it have a party system. The online service remains barebones, well after the console's launch and a couple of months after the dedicated mobile app - which we found to be severely lacking - went live. It's pitiful stuff.

Typical Nintendo, always needing to be "new" and "innovative" over being actually good and useful for developers other than themselves

Actually, while the Switch doesn't have a built-in play-with-friends feature, certain games have included them. The developer could have just added one for the game themselves.

That doesn't excuse the actual infrastructure that's not built in the system itself yet despite every other system having it. It's not the job of 3rd parties to pick up the pieces created by Nintendo and try and make something work

I'm going to head over to the Switch board to see how they're defending this.

Couldnt the fifa guys have made an invite feature? Lots of games have their own internal invite system. The switch has a friends list so its not like they couldnt have the game access that.

Fifa is just a lazy port, that's all.

Don't forget that Switch online won't be free much longer.

Why would you want to play the switch version of fifa 18 lmao

Because portable FIFA 18. If I were planning on playing FIFA (or pretty much any multiplatform game) online a lot, obviously I would get it for one of the other systems. But if I just plan on mostly playing the offline modes against the CPU, then the portable aspect of the Switch would make it a lot more enjoyable.

I'm not excusing it, but it's not like an invite system is completely impossible on the Switch.

EA already has their developers working on 4 different platforms, 3 of them have the infrastructure already built in to the console itself, one doesn't. If Nintendo's trying to make good with 3rd parties they're putting in as little effort as possible

All of those games invite systems had to be done by hand, which is easy to sit back and say "Well EA is just lazy" but when every other console has the shit pre built it and Fifa 18 is a much larger game than MK8 or Splatoon 2 and it would take much more time and effort for a port that most likely won't be profitable, it just makes Nintendo and the Switch look bad

Yes you are. You literally just retorted with "Why don't they do it themselves?" when they shouldn't have to for the sake of dealing with Nintendo's bullshit because they only make consoles that appeal to themselves and nobody esle

So yeah its pretty much confirmed to be the game dev's fault thinking they could just copy and paste their game to every platform without consideration.

Yeah that's right, it's always those lazy 3rd parties who are at fault and never Nintendo for needing to be hipsters and put out hardware unfriendly and too weak for everyone but them

The fact that you need a smartphone app to use voice chat is all you need to know about Nintendo's infrastructure
