North Koreans aren't very aware of how much the world has changed since the Korean War. they are told by their government that America wants to conquor them and take their land because our land is dying. Sure some of them are, but I'd wager the majority of them are faking it just to survive. When you can be publicly executed while thousands of people are forced to watch because someone in your family escaped the country, or get sentenced to 6 months hard labor because you don't cry hard enough when the previous leader died, I'm pretty sure you'll do what you gotta do just to live. The whole country is basically being held hostage.
