But you weren't even planning on asking in the first place, because they look plenty old enough to buy them...

I nonchalantly take it, scan it, reply, "thank you," then continue with the purchase.

I still check it and abide by the law because not checking regardless of age assumption will get me fired and the place I work for fined.

To be fair, a lot of places will ID you if you look any younger than 40 or so. I always get my ID ready even though I don't look that young

A lot of places have that rule, but with my store, nobody enforces it.

It's just slightly awkward that they think they might look young enough to be carded, when really, they weren't... That's all.

I know I'm getting up there already, myself. ;_;

I always have my ID ready and i'm 36, it's solely because I don't want to be that piece of shit that argues with the cashier when they ask.

that's probably not it. plenty of cashiers ask obviously old people for I.D out of policy alone, they probably assume your store is no different. I got used to not getting asked for I.D so I stopped carrying it and then that's when they decide to start asking me.

I remember one of the stores near where I live got in trouble for selling alcohol to underage people. They decided to make a rule that everyone got their ID checked. Even people clearly well into their 60s+.

In my state of Alaska you literally have to card everyone for alcohol because alcoholics that have gotten in trouble with the law will have something on their drivers license that makes it so you can't sell them alcohol.

I'm 26... It's probably 75 don't and 25 do. I don't have it ready anymore but I don't see what would awkward with just taking it, checking and saying thank you.
