not saying that being average is a bad thing, but i've worked with some super talented, smart and creative people in the companies i've worked for. my brain isn't as good as theirs and i lack creativity

the only good thing is that i'm doing better than my parents were doing, but that's not saying much

i was good at school but that's because i knew the system well rather than being intellectually smart e.g. doing more reading, including more sources + contacting lecturers more = higher marks

but then when it comes to the business world, i'm not that good in pushing ideas through or coming up with initiatives to drive more viewing. and i hate talking to upper management coz i get imposter syndrome and scared they'll find out how inadequate i am at my job

does anyone else feel the same way? or am i having a quarter life crisis?

That's why it's more important, imo, to find ways to make yourself happy and pursue that. It's not about being the most intelligent but the most happy. If you derive happiness from intellectual capability then just think about how many people are dumber than you are.

every single day for me is another opportunity for me to discover just how out of place i feel in the business world

Well, doing better than your mother and father should really be good enough, but i think i know where youre coming from. Maybe youre in a wrong profession? Thats what i found out after some years, even though im doing well enough in a job with good salary and great benefits, the motivation just isnt there

If youre feeling something like that, maybe you should sit down with a guidance councelor and see if there is something else that might motivate you more =)

I think it is true for many people.

Important thing is if you are happy in what you do/ your life otherwise. Focusing on the negative sides of it won't do any favours, but it is all too easy to do that unfortunately.

Parappa09, part of that is living in London. I know how you feel. It's really intimidating to be honest to go to London, you can get caught up in how glitzy everything is. There are so many beautiful people, so many smart and creative and wealthy people. You think you're doing ok and then you meet some 21 year old who started a successful business or a singer who's making it big or whatever. I enjoy London but it's honestly overwhelming sometimes how small it can make you feel. There's an incredible amount of social pressure to be amazing and interesting and unique in a city with so many amazing and unique people.

You should appreciate that people would look at you and feel the same way. It's part of the culture we live in now where you just see everyone else's highlight reels and feel bombarded with comparisons.

Some things you're probably not choosing to see is the actual lifestyle's of these people who are super talented. They have the same problems you do in the end. Feelings of inadequacy, emotional issues, loneliness, money problems.

The best thing you can do is just look out for yourself and live your own best life.

I believe almost everyone has a talent. A natural ability to be good at something. For some its business or art or throwing a football or running fast.

Maybe you just haven't discovered your talent. You should try things that you never have, not everyone is academic, some are good with their hands, or good talkers, or physically more capable. You just have to find it.

Sign up for things you would never think of doing. Rumba classes, yoga, wood turning, building clocks, knitting, go cart racing!...so many things you can try.

part of this realization is also realizing it doesn't matter how you're doing relative to others

i have a friend. he is a visiting prof at a university. he's much smarter than me and is publishing quantum computing solutions to np-hard problems like the cosmological constant.

i am not jealous of him, because i am too busy enjoying my own life (and also i know the hours he works, and i dont want to do that shit)
