Whether it’s pretending that we don’t know some basic sport rule or have never heard of a not-so-obscure political philosophy, many women are guilty of dumbing down in order to win the hearts of less-impressive guys.

But if you think that ends when we grow up a bit and realise our own self worth, then think again.

Because a depressing study has found that increasing numbers of well-educated women feel like they’re forced to ‘dumb down’ when it comes to searching for a partner in order to avoid remaining single.

In the past, highly educated women tended to remain unattached (that old ‘Blue Stockings’ stereotype must have come from somewhere) but that situation has apparently reversed. The research by the University of Leuven, Belgium, has looked at data from 28 European countries, including the UK, where one man in five is in a relationship with a more highly educated woman.

On average, about 75% women have at least a medium-level of education, compared to just 31% of men.

‘Highly educated women tend to react to the reversed gender gap in education by partnering down, while low-educated men, rather than partnering up, tend to stay single more often,’ the study concludes.

There's no doubt that the quality of women has gone way down in the past 10 years due to online dating and third wave feminism. Found their issue. Men don't consider intelligence to be 'partnering up' as they really couldn't care less for the most part. The article assumes men are willing to budget attributes in a mate where intelligence or a college degree carry enough weight for that to matter. They aren't electing not to partner up. This is not 'up'. Logically no one would say no to 'up' it's so irrelevant and the budget/tradeoff is that the degree and intelligence are usually compensating for lower value in criteria that actually matter to men (looks). This is like going to market for something that's a package deal that is very expensive, and there's something tacked on to make it even more expensive that the buyer doesn't care about. The degree is a burden when the looks are what matter and some of these highly educated women can't see they are tacking in an added cost that is going to completely drop the supply of men that don't care about their education. Which is many. Because of biology. But apparently they don't get this and still write these articles.

Truly intelligent women are super hard to find which is what I value more so. Education is rather meaningless in terms of partner prospects and is also easily attainable by simple hard work, not really some inate high level of intelligence.

this is true tho. I know a lot of people who went into college dumb, finished college, and emerged still the same dumb person

meanwhile there's people who never went to school past high school who are really smart. just from personal experiences alone I don't trust education as a good indicator of intelligence

tho personally I would say college made me smarter. I went in sort of just drifting through life and came out pretty good at math and physics

we know this happens in Japan. I read a story once about how female teachers in Japanese schools will stand in the hall and talk like professional women amongst themselves. and then the moment a male teacher comes by, they all turn into giggling schoolgirls.

This is a really good distinction that should be made.

You tend to see a ton of people who are educated but literally just wanna "bullshit and party and bullshit and party". Finding someone that's genuinely interested in thinking outside the box so to speak is rare and they typically don't dumb themselves down.

The problem is for every 1 of them for either gender you'll find another 5 (hell maybe 10) bottlerats at the club.

Nothing wrong with that though. Most of the people I know fall into the latter category but they're also having a lot more fun when we're out partying so I don't knock it.

What? I mean you're not wrong about online dating destroying the concept of dating because it promotes looking good at the camera as oppose to finding out stuff like their personality and interests. But I have yet to see fat women get that much attention in online dating. In fact, I think fat girls probably have it harder when it comes to the dating scene right next to guys with no jobs/low paying jobs.

This article is equating Education to Intelligence and they are simply not the same thing.
I am not "educated" and I work in an environment full of "educated" nurses and doctors and I am astounded at how unintelligent some of them are. Sure they have a degree but no common sense. They have learnt how to insert a catheter but they can't figure out how remove a stuck piece of paper from a printer or remember where things are stored or even how to use word or excel or e-mails. They can't problem solve. I'm talking about men and women.

Everyone likes to date up. But men and women have different ideas of what that means. For women, that means dating a man of higher status and income. For men, it generally means dating a young, attractive woman. Women assume men are looking for the same things they are. Most men could care less about a woman's career achievements. Why do women still try to date up when they're successful and independent? They are only limiting their chances of finding someone by having unrealistic expectations.

the problem with your logic is that, even if what you were saying was basically correct, most men do attach a premium to higher education and earning power. men tend to date down with respect to that kind of thing, but not to the extent that it doesn't matter at all -- a goldman sachs banker isn't dating a high school dropout maid, though he might fuck her regularly
