Allegedly using steroids to enhance your playing ability and taking a political stance are two very, very different situations, so if you're trying to compare him to Kaepernick's situation, there's nothing similar. Bonds wasn't blackballed from playing. Blackballed from the hall of fame, maybe. But not from playing.

Bonds was 43 years old at the time of his last MLB season, far past his prime and going to retire within the next year or two anyways. Some would say he deserved to play more, but no team wanted to pay so much for an aging, past-his-prime hitter who was also in the midst of a scandal for allegedly using steroids. They could more easily sign a young power hitter in his late 20's for less money that will hit just as well or even better. They signed alternatives that were just as good or better than a 43-year-old Barry Bonds.

Kaepernick's situation is much more obviously blackballing because the number of good or even decent NFL quarterbacks out there is so unbelievably low. A good two dozen QB's were signed that are blatantly inferior in playing ability to what Kaepernick is capable of, and some of them are so unbelievably terrible (Scott Tolzein, Dan Orlovsky, Mark Sanchez, etc.) that the only reason they're even still in the league at all is because the selection of QB's is so shallow.

TL;DR version: Bonds wasn't blackballed from playing, there were just plenty of better options than a 43-year-old, off-his-alleged-steroids, past-his-prime hitter.
