Which is a shame, because if you think mods are love their power here, try going to other boards. The only other board I've been to are the RPG Maker boards, and they fucking love to move threads around just for an excuse to use their exclusive mod features.

Also, other boards have this incredibly irritating thing of constantly closing threads for some reason. Mods will be like, "Well, since it seems like the question has been answered, we'll close this thread.", etc. They don't have a system where old threads just naturally get locked/deleted like on here, it seems.

Personally, for as bad as I think things are here, I feel like GameFAQs has their shit together a little more than other message boards. Only thing it's missing is an option for avatars to be displayed.

There's nothing outdated about the format of message boards. A lot of people on the internet today are just inept and have no attention span so have garbage taste in communication platforms. There's also a really dumb trend in technology fixating on constantly changing things, gotta be new, gotta be on the cutting edge. The definition of fixing what isn't broken, except instead of fixing it it's playing musical chairs with design and often producing something crappier just for the sake of feeling different or "modern"

Anyway, no probably not. GameFAQs' community has been in a massive decline for awhile and changes/additions have either just been much too late, or for the worse.

While some of what is being proposed for the future of GameFAQs sounds reassuring, the apparent perceptions of how GameFAQs handles harassment/trolling from the staff communicate that they have the literal opposite idea of what the problem is and going forward with that mentality is sure to only further poison an already dwindling and toxic community.

I feel like this is more or less what happened to AIM in its later years, as well as Skype. We'll see if Discord goes down the same path.

Come up with a more noob-friendly wiki format so every game can have its own wiki. There are already other sites where you can do this but this site probably still has the biggest games database overall, and the format could be easier to use.

Also let people add pictures to reviews and upload full video reviews. Embedding youtube videos doesn't cut it.

Give people extra karma for contributing content.

There's definitely a lot of games whose "wikia" or whatever is total garbage.

In fact generally wikis for games are terrible. The only one I'd say is just great is the Elder Scrolls one, uesp.net or whatever it's called.

The Wikidots for the older Souls games were decent as well.

Beyond that though I've generally found them extremely lacking.

But really these days when I want to know something I just ask on the board. And if it's on GameFAQs, I'll then generally have someone who doesn't know the answer try to argue with me to convince me it doesn't matter and I don't want to know what I asked. Because GameFAQs: Literally everything has to be a dick measuring contest.
