Like if someone told you they're a teacher do you see It as a respectable career?

I would, it's important.

There are some teachers who shouldn't be teachers.

Depends on the person. In hindsight, a lot of my teachers had no bussiness teaching.

Teaching is a rough job too that often pays out poorly.

It's just another job tbh. One rung above babysitters.

All the way up through high school this definitely rings true, and I'm sure in many colleges it does as well.

No more than any other career. I had a lot of shit teachers growing up. I had few good ones.
Now, working among them but not being one. A lot are shit at their jobs. There's a few good ones.

I respect someone for becoming a teacher and the hard work that they had to take to get there. But I generally don't respect teachers. Community College, and now my University, really made me feel like my professors had an extremely easy job.

I would like to, but to be quite honest K-12 teachers tend to not try very hard to actually teach anymore, and are so afraid of their students they jump at even a hint of trouble, and try to avoid it, rather than taking those causing problems and either disciplining them or talking to them about it.

I used to respect university professors more, but these days they seem more interested in making the students liberal parrots than thoughtful, productive and intelligent people.

The standards for education have fallen so far that you can't really even call it education anymore. Teachers aren't teachers anymore, they're glorified babysitters who don't even take accountability for what happens under their surveillance of the students.

I've been lucky enough in my life to be naturally very analytical and tend to think about things logically for the most part, and I've been able to teach myself more about life and actual scholastic subjects than any teacher I had in school ever attempted to.
