Fast casual has had remarkable growth the past few years. I hardly even go to McDonald's or Burger King anymore, I always try out these fast casual burger places instead.

The burgers taste so much better, even if I am paying an extra $5-7 overall every time I dine. It's hard to go back to fast food after that.

just no real reason not to gravitate toward better quality at the same price/speed

I eat at actual sit-down restaurants more than anything. I could be saving like $1,200 a month if I didn't lol. But I just love FOOD AND BEER AND HOT WAITRESSES SO I FUCKING GO FOR IT!!!

A month?

I always make my food at home for my family. Very rarely do we go out to eat fast food or fast casual food.

Probably 3:1 fast casual to fast food. Although I guess I'm not always sure what is considered fast casual and what is not. Are indy burger places considered fast casual? What about teriyaki? Cheese steaks?

Yeah, so I looked at wiki's list of fast casual restaurants, and I've never heard of most of them, and most of the ones I've heard of, I've never eaten at.

So fast food wins by a mile.

I hate fast food. Not for health reasons for anything like that, but I genuinely believe the food at all these restaurants taste fucking awful.

I didn't really hear of the term either until about 2013/2014, but I had been eating at such places (Chipotle) back in 2011.

I mean, I do prefer the likes of Chipotle or Subway a lot of the time, but when I do try to stay cheap ($5 and under) I'll just get some dollar things from Burger King, Wendys, or Taco Bell. Also sometimes my mood determines on if I actually want to go in somewhere vs just getting easy drive through.

McDonald's dollar menu sucks. I've pretty much all but stopped eating there despite that I used to swear by it when I was a kid.

Slighty more expensive fast food without a drive thru and people call it fast casual to seem different or better then others while it's still fast food and uses the same ingredients

A fast casual restaurant, found primarily in the United States, does not offer full table service, but promises higher quality food than other fast food restaurants (with fewer frozen or processed ingredients).[1] It is an intermediate concept between fast food and casual dining, and usually priced accordingly.

Sounds like what the guy you quoted said.

Who doesn't "promise" better quality than their competetors?
