I'm lookin' to get one that's around 200-300 dollars, would you ever spend that much on a watch? I have 5 working watches and 3 that don't run anymore. Yeah i'm a huge watch guy, and how many watches do you own?

I would only buy a watch as a status symbol. They are obsolete these days. That said, I would go with Cartier which run $10k-$20k.

I wouldn't spend much, but I don't have a profession where it would be useful.

I've spent around $230 .... and that was after the special. It's a special occasions watch, not one I wear on a day to day basis.

I own this one and just a cheapy that I wear for work (it gets covered in playdough, paint, glue... you name it!).

Regular for sure. Smart watches don't do much that other devices can't do better. I guess that's true of a regular watch, but idk.

I am not really a fan of the smart watches, either. But at the end of the day, it's your watch... your decision.

I've been checking out a few "status symbol" watch brands, and while some appeal, I can't fathom spending 15-40 K on a watch. (Rolex prices)

And I say that as someone that's been throwing money around the past few months on Kenzo clothes and $500 jeans.

I like them, but I think I'd rather go for something like Newport often does and get a really nice Invicta or something for 1-3K

It's actually a shame Newport is in purgatory, because this is one of the few topics where he might actually be useful instead of annoying.

If there's one thing that clown seemed to actually know something about (Beside drugs and criminal activity) it's watches.

Got an Apple Watch for about $250 when they first came out. It's been a pretty good investment so far.

I don't think I'd pay that much for just a watch unless it was a dress watch to last me for life.

As an EMT I'm required to have a watch, but not one that's too expensive because of vomit and such. $200-300 is ideal.

you would wear that $300 dollar watch on your job? My nicer ones i don't wear to work, my 2 older and lesser ones i wear to work. But i still like to wear a watch at work and i'm not white collar i'm blue collar but it ain't incredibly physical work either.

A couple of 100.

The people I'm around wouldn't know the difference in a Armitron from a Omega.

Hell I'm still using my $35 watch from Walmart I bought two years ago.

It's an image thing. I do corporate work, and if you walk into a board room filled with literal millionaires, the first thing they do is give you the once over. Same thing goes for trial work, a jury is more likely to 'root for' the person who looks better. My fiance does criminal work, and she has to have a certain level of jewelry and dress or she risks getting chewed out by the firm.

As for your average rank and file law firm employees, it's less of a concern. And you're right, by and large most attorneys make a decent living, but they aren't 'rich'. Corporate(not me though, I'm technically on retainer and rarely actually have to work), private law fims(and only higher up), and certain types of advocacy work(big class actions, and they go by a 'eat only what you kill' style) are the real 'money makers'.

$500 is the most I spent and looking back that was just frivolous.

I could have got a much better deal if I shopped around but I just felt like spending money at that moment in time.

I could conceivably spend ~$1k for a decent Swiss watch. Right now, my "nice" watch is a $700 Tissot and I use a $200 watch as my daily. I'm never buying anything in the five figure range because that's just ridiculous.

As for smart watches, I just...can't. Don't see the appeal.
