Let's say a random example, which DB Super got me thinking of.

A martial arts tournament where completely new characters are coming in to fight each other. So many characters that it's hard to write all of them very well in a single show.

Well, what if each group of fighters coming into the tournament were from different tv series? And then the episodes from the tournament were shown from different points of view, while still being part of the same story for that one or two seasons.

Think that could be profitable? Almost like a marvel universe type thing, but not quite the same.

It would suck. Just look at that big CW event where all the arrowverse shows crossed over to fight against an alien threat.

The story would be simple and uninteresting and because there are so many characters on screen at the same time you can't give anyone enough focus.

Ahhh, I worded it poorly. What I mean is all the characters coming together in the story. And then each show showing THEIR OWN characters and their point of view. Not literally turning into a single show. So getting the whole picture would actually require watching multiple tv shows.

That's what they did. It lasted for 4 nights iirc

Three nights. Supergirl had a completely unrelated episode and then Flash showed up in the last thirty seconds. And then they replayed that thirty seconds on the Flash, so you didn't even need to watch Supergirl to get that.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the event where aliens were planning an attack, so the flash had to bring Supergirl over to his world from her earth. Then they teamed up with green arrow's team and the legends of tomorrow.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

You might be thinking about the Music Meister episode where they also did that, but at least they weren't billing it as a "FOUR NIGHT CROSSOVER EVENT"

No, not the Music Meister one. Anyway, I really didn't like it at all. I wish they hadn't done that big crossover when they didn't have a good story in mind for it

There's a lot of problems in the idea. Logistics for even small crossovers like the Arrowverse stuff prove difficult as actors can only work at certain times depending on their schedules, then over the long term, increases their workload as they have to cameo or guest in one or more shows while doing their own.

For small bits they're kind of fun romps, but over a long term, it would probably lose more people than it gained. It's hard keeping up on one show these days, but when plot or character development is on another show, people tend to not try. The MCU is getting away with it now, but one day people will complain about having to see a new Iron Man movie to know why he's doing something in Avengers. As a tournament angle, I'd just be afraid they'd let audience voting or forum opinion to decide who wins.

Then you get into trouble with home video releases and syndication rights and it all becomes a mess. The closest I think we'll get is if Flash and Arrow share a villain for their respective seasons, but are mostly kept separate for everything but the finale.
