I only went to maybe get an internship that would train me or something. How do they expect me to have a portfolio already, it's like 3 weeks into the semester. Fuck, man. To me, coding is the icky side of tech. I'd rather stick to other aspects of IT - like networking and sysadmin - as long as I can get away with it. Same. yeah job fairs are the worst classmates told me how great they are and how I have to go etc I didn't even want to go because I'm not ready and they basically just laughed at me in the most professional way possible. I could probably do every job at the fair. I don't lie and I just don't care honestly. I'll build my portfolio with a website, an app, and some desktop software they can look at. I can make all those anyway. They can look at them and if it's still not enough then I don't care about their position anymore. The only way to fight against employers is to not work for them.
