Read that as "negative 7.1" at first and was really confused

Where's this one?

There are some horrifying videos being shared online of buildings collapsing in seconds. It's awful.

Apparently today is the 32nd anniversary of the 1985 earthquake that hit Mexico City and as a result many places held an earthquake drill prior to the actual quake.

Mexico City, no less. A lot of these natural disasters happen close to eclipses, too.

It was horrible in here. I took a fairly strong shake at home, but no one was hurt and there wasn't even a single thing that got even slightly damaged even when a couple of things fell (just a family picture and a mirror, but again, not even that was damaged).

We did lost electricity supply since the earthquake occured (1:14 p.m. local time) up until around 9:00 p.m., so we couldn't even watch the news - we could only barely hear the radio on our cellphones.

My brother was at work and we had trouble contacting him. Fortunately me and my mom could speak to him at night, and he passed the night at a friend's house.

As for the city itself, classes were suspended at all levels (from Kindergarden to University) in 8 states up until a new announcement is made, including the capital, Mexico City, which is where we live and was probably the most damaged area of the country. The city is currently under chaos (although much less today than yesterday), and people are still working on saving people buried under crumbled buildings and schools. Over 200 people have died, 10% being children from across different schools.

The magnitude was lower than the one from two weeks ago, but the epicentre was way closer to the capital, hence the massive damage.

I feel so extremely blessed to live in such a safe place, having internet and stuff to continue my daily life as if nothing had happened over here.
