I was expecting shitty Seth McFarlane humour without any thought.

But the latest episode was actually good, with character development and real story, with some humoru put here and there without being overbearing or over the top.

It kinda feels like it still wants to be serious but in a very lighthearted way, kinda like Stargate show was, but instead of replicating it they put humour as a thing in it to not make it too cheesy as that kind of show would've been at this age.

It seems to be a promising clever show tbh.

Seth McFarlane is a huge Trekkie, so I had high hopes for this series. It's not about cheap laughs, it's actually a pretty damn good series, I am expecting it to be better than Star Trek Discovery (which I will watch when it comes out).

It kind of sounds like he wanted to make a traditional Trek-like series but had to sell it to the network as a comedy so they'd pick it up.

I watched the first episode after seeing this topic and it wasn't great. Every single joke fell flat. I don't even understand how it's supposed to be humor seeing as how most of the jokes lacked a setup or a punchline. A character would just say something and you're supposed to tell from their tone that they meant for it to be funny. The story was kind of boring and I didn't like that they couldn't decide whether they want the show to have a retro feel of be contemporary

This is a pretty good summary of my thoughts on the pilot. The jokes never really felt like jokes, or they were so lazy that you couldn't tell they were intended as jokes. And as a somewhat serious show, it doesn't work either, because its way too cliched and the acting is pretty bad.
